No Ping on WAN - options?

I have a Huawei HG612 plugged into a D-Link DIR882 which D-Link removed ping on WAN.

I tried DD-WRT earlier but it was buggy and the WiFi speeds were appalling so it's back on stock firmware now.

How can I use BQM with this setup? Stick my Sky Q box in the DMZ or get a raspberry pie?

Would putting the HG612 in modem/router mode and turning off its DHCP work? Set that to respond to pings and treating the D-Link as an extension router. I'm assuming the HG612 is unlocked.

Normally of course we would keep DHCP on in the first router and turn it off in the extension, but the above might work.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

It is unlocked yes.

Would I need to turn the firewall off on the D-Link and UPNP?

I doubt it, but don�t �know�. Probably others will.

IIIRC with the usual setting up of extension routers it�s just that one that has DHCP turned off.

Having said that, I�d had a tiring day, and can�t remember now what made me suggest the unusual way. Try leaving the HG612 DHCP on first and turning it off in the D-Link, which is the usual way.

If you can't change the router to one not made by D-Link (as that is a stupid firmware decision) then I would not put your Q box in the DMZ as it could easily be attacked. The DMZ means "no protection for this item". So a raspberry pie is a cheap option. Consider ditching the D-Link.

You would need to, and it would probably give you hassles with gaming (e.g. XBox/PS etc). Many people turn UPNP off these days, recommended if you find you don't need it, keep it off.

I'm not going to ditch the D-Link as it's wireless performance is very impressive for the price I paid for it.

What ports do ICMP Echo requests use if I go down the Raspberry PI route?

ICMP doesn't use ports as it is not TCP or UDP. You cannot "port forward" ICMP.

Not yet. Flipping over to the EE Hub later. Getting a lot of buffering over 5Ghz on the D-Link for some reason.

I believe the EE Smart Hub supports ping on wan so will use that on BQM.
