Valid Router ?

[link to this post]

Hi all,

This is my first post but I've been a member of this site for over a decade now. I've found the tools very useful & reliable.
Thanks btw for all that make that possible.

Over the years I've done a lot of monitoring usint the BQM's, again very informative & a God send.

The trouble I'm having now is, I recently obtained the services of YouFibre, I opted for the 1 Gig symmetrical service. The install was fiine & the engineer did his general test over WiFi, it was floating over 900 - 970mb/s, I wasn't too fussed, being an engineer in the past knowing about variables.
Great.

Its only been installed since the 5th October so only 8 days but the speed has dropped dramtically, I know they say wait a fortnight to allow for the 'teething stage' so I thought I'd set up a BQM anyway...

The modem is an Arris NVG578LX but for the life of me, I can't seem to get anything out of it, just the continuous red bar on the BQM I set up...
So far I've tried diasabling any setting with ICMP mentioned being blocked in the DoS Protection page, I've been to the Firewalls 'Level' and set both IPv4 & 6 to 'OFF', to allow all traffic through but to no avail.

Does this just happen to be one of those modem/routers that are not compatible with the Firebrick that you use ?
I usually try to figure things out for myself in a lot of topics but this one has me..
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, please & thanks in advance.

From all the info I can find YouFibre use CGNAT. That means the public IP you have is shared by a number of customers (due to the low number of IPv4 addresses available). Because of this you cannot port forward to any of your devices - your devices cannot be pinged from anything outside of the YouFibre network. Unless YouFibre can assign you your own IP you won't be able to use the BQM.

If they support IPv6 then this is often a public range of IPs, its the IPv4 that has run out so the new providers have to use CGNAT. If the ISP doesn't support IPv6, ask them why not!
