BT Home hub and missing Admin accounts

[link to this post]

Hi,

I've just installed the BT Home Hub, I want to configure it but when I go to the advanced settings there are no admin accounts. I can see the admin accounts via telnet but not via the web browser.

I have done a hard reset of the home hub to try and get the accounts back but sadly nothing, I'm thinking I've had an unwanted return sent out to me.

Anyone come across this problem.

By any chance are you on IE7.

There appears to be a login bug with IE7

There is a bug with IE7 that will not accept the default user name and passwork. Download Firefox and access the admin pages that way. Once in the admin section, change the default user to Admin. When you use IE7 after that, it would work ok.

Thanks guys, i removed ie7 and it started working. Now the other issue i've got is that from this morning I have only two lights active on the Home Hub "Wireless and Data" If I try to reset the Home Hub unit results in the Phone light flashing and then the above two lights start flashing again.

I'm guessing that the system tried to update over night but encountered a problem. anyone else had this issue?

This was the EXACT issue I had after I unplugged my hub and plugged it back in. It wasn't even in the middle of an update when I did that. Your hub, sadly, is dead. It will not work again.

I called 0800 800 150 and they sent a new one to me (with another free phone!) and everything's fine now.

This only happened to me when I unplugged it (so I could rearrange my computer cables), and when I plugged it in, and tried everything, only wireless and data will remain on after its boot cycle. It cannot be pinged or anything, definately dead.

When you call that number, they'll ask you to reset it and try the usual troubleshooting, and then they'll place a new one on order for you and you may just get another free phone like I did! After 3 days I called again on the same number (got through to a UK centre this time), and they confirmed it was already on order and they would provide me a tracking number the next day. They called me back the next day with the number, and I recieved it the next day too.

EDIT: I would like to compare something with you. Does your dead hub sound all plastic-creaky when you press its casing? My dead one does. My replacement hub doesn't, and feels nice and secure.

Let me know if your new replacement one (when you get it) feels solid. If this is true, then they must be giving us refurbished ones that have been sent back before. Sounds stupid, but please give this a try.

I didn't even do anything with my hub, I woke up on sunday morning to find all the lights active and then after a couple of hours lying in bed waiting for it to do something, I got up and removed the power connector for 30 seconds to let it re-initalise, that didn't work and the following hours of trying to hard reset it, unplug the power and reconnect did not work, even trying the script on the helpline didn't work (they even ran a line test!!)

As for the casing, nope, sounds quite solid to me.

Here is my serial numbers from the back and the bottom of the casing, maybe it's down to a faulty batch?

The S/N will be different for every hub, and my dead hub and my working one have the same Item Code and the number from the stand. My new is working fine so far but I haven't unplugged it (and don't want to!). Have you placed a new one on order?

According to BT Help Desk, they have asked for a new one to be sent out, I have been given an RMA code which i can use if I don't receive anything this week.

Did they ask you to send the old one back? I hope not, it's BT's equipment in the end and if it cannot be salvaged then they should be asking for them back to be recycled as per European laws.

You should recieve yours within 7 days. When I placed the replacement order on the phone through tech support, he said I should send mine back. I asked him what address to send to, and he said don't worry we'll give you the address. I haven't got an address so I guess he just mutually asked me to return it. I'm not going to because first I'll have to find the address, write a letter why I'm sending it, pay for the delivery pointlessly, and they'll just throw it away when they get it. I wouldn't mind sending it if they paid for it, as I shouldn't have to pay for something that's already broken.

I feel like breaking it apart and looking inside...

They may send a jiffy bag for return of the faulty router along with the replacement.
