Corroded Cable at phone pole -Speeds have improved

[link to this post]

We have found a faulty cable going to the phone pole, the orange cable had become corroded at the phone pole and with the temp changes of the day and damp or any strong winds wouldve affected it... he also mentioned that over a period of time it wouldve just fallen out it was so bad, and he was supprised i had internet at all. The long wire to the pole from my house has also dropped and he has tenshioned that up aswell. He is going to come back later and then tomorrow and keep it on the job till we know its working fine, my speeds have also gone up from 60 - 115kb/s with this wire change. Attention DB has gone from 49.5 - 49.0 , SNR has gone from 9.5 - 8.0 so line quality has improved as have the speeds.

Will need to check today and tomorrow, and ill keep you upto date.

Thanks
Neil

Previous stats included snr from 10.0 right upto 30 db , attention upto 55 db , severe noise down the phone line , very unstable and speeds at 30kb/s on a 4mbit line!

-------------

Improvements made by fixing corroded phone pole wire

Line attention has gone from 49.5 to 49.0
SNR has gone from 9.5/9.0 - 8.5
4224Kbps

-----------

Changed modem options to 20 through dmt tool , now had SNR 7.5 0-0

Looking good.
Particularly interesting to me as my line from the pole appears to lower compared to the rest of the lines from the pole.
I just need to connect up to the test socket again for a little while, get stats, do a download test and pass the results back to Be* and I might have a chance of getting a BT engineer to look into it.

height of the dropwire has little relation to it's performance ( until a high lorry rolls by )

LOL. That's what I'm hoping might happen.
I have a feeling in my case it's a bad joint along the line somewhere - 2 fault since November and I know teh last one in June was a break in the cable about 200 metres away
