Hub Phone - PSTN and VoiP Calls

[link to this post]

For info:

BT Email:

"The service should receive calls to your PSTN line however the HubPhone
will ring only when your 056 number is called. There is a degree of
handset configuration that is available via the online Hub manager but
the Hub Phone is VOIP only.

The service has been set up in this way as a response to customer
feedback with the majority saying they prefer to keep PSTN and VOIP
completely seperate. We will be reviewing this for future firmware
release."

Following conversations with BT re this - it is likely a firmware update will be released so that the Hub Phone can accept VoiP and PSTN calls so that there is a seamless service for the customer.

You can make PSTN calls via the Hub Phone by dialling 5 first.

I thought this was common knowledge, it even states it. But knowing BT they will have stopped it making PSTN calls.

On the fact of the hub phone where is mine? Getting 512k speeds, the least they could do is provide me with a phone which if anything like the hub I will be getting 5 of them.

so what exactly is the home hub phone, because thats as clear as mud!

so is it voip only? with pstn dialing out?

seems stupid not allowing it to ring on incomming pstn calls?

i was expecting full pstn use especially from a telecoms provider such as BT

You can do both using it, what Bt done is stopped it making PSTN calls for the first firmware release but this will be sorted when you put the phone into it's cradle and it updates. But Bt stopping it from making PSTN calls doesn't surprise me the slightest.

Just for clarity.

You can make PSTN calls by pressing 5 before dialling the number.

You cannot however receive PSTN calls via the Hub Phone, you can only receive VoiP calls via the Hub Phone from people who dial your 05 number.

However BT are proposing a firmware upgrade to the Hub router to allow the Hub Phone to receive PSTN and VoiP calls.

So if your expect calls from people dialling your 01 number, you'll need to have another phone connected to the Phone port on the back of the hub at the moment.

My thinking is they rushed the Hub out and the software is not complete, it certainly wasn't from customer feedback - I would have thought the customer would have liked a seamless operation that everything just worked.

I know more than most after completing all of the feedback on the hub and sending it off to product management. So peoples concerns and problems have been noted.

I also got my hub phone this morning.

Received my Hub phone today. Works fine. Being an old person, it took me awhile to find the 'wireless' button which is located on the rear of the hub..!!

the buttons kept falling out and could cause problems for small children. One thing is that the directional buttons are hard to use because they are not raised in any way and most of the buttons around it are solid.
