HomeHub speed Issue

[link to this post]

Hello, i've got my home hub up and running, im plugged into the ethernet 1 slot.

when i checked the router settings it displays:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 6,944

so, thats about 5-6mb/s right?

ok, i've tried speedtests, microsofts web site and usenet and the most i can get out of it is 60kb/s but upload is good and steady at 40kb/s.

edit - i've done further test, different ethernet slot, left the router disconnected for 10 minutes, restarted comp, different speed tests online, different usenet ports and its always a steady 60kb/s max. Got me thinking whether it was some kind of sharing in the router so everyone had this speed? qos or something. dunno.

what the hell?

is there something i'm missing in the advanced settings or something?

A few hours in and the same problem, just cant work it out.

it's always right on 60kb/s as well and stable.

Must be on my own with this judging by over 50+ views. :~(

if you have just regraded to ADSL max then you will be in the 10 day training period and your speed will be all over the place on day 10 suposedly your BRAS data rate will come to you and on that kind of synch i think your looking at either a 4.5 or 5 meg bras. ie450-500 kbs full download however you probably will not see this kind of speed untill
early hours in the morning.

If on day 11 your BRAS does not come to you its time to call THD and get your BRAS unstuck (good luck)

ok, thaks for the replies, i thought that initially the sync speed will be all over the place for a while, but im still baffled by this 60kb/s download cap. just cant work it out.

Broadband connection details:
Downstream 6,976 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps

http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

463kb/s download
373kb/s upload

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=116046724075313630422

Downstream 469.7 Kbps ( = 0.5 Mbps )
Upstream 375.6 Kbps ( = 0.4 Mbps )

It is a BRAS profile issue without a doubt. You can tell it is not your line or sync as it is so high 6000+.

Contact THD on 0845 600 70 30 and tell them you have a speed fault and it is below the wholesale limits for DSL max as the lowest speed/throughput is 792kbps. Do a bt wholesale speedtest @ http://speedtester.bt.com and then thats you off they will investigate.

Jesus, that was 20 minutes of the most annoying phone call i've ever had.

I told the man at the call center what i told you guys, that i sync at 6mb/s but only get 0.5mb/s speeds.

He tells me that the line has been checked and is ready and the 0.5mb/s speed i'm recieving is the speed i'll always have as anything more is not going to be stable.

I told him that i've got a 32db and that 6db and above is needed for a stable line (he didnt have a clue what i was on about) and also that i had 2mb/s stable 2 years ago.

I also didnt understand that i sync at 6000kb/s and only get 500kb/s, and again he didnt understand the difference.

After about 20 minutes of being red in the face speaking to someone htat was reading off a list (15 minutes in he asked about microfilters!!) Someone is calling me back at 7 at night.

Not having a go at these people, i know they've got a job to do, just wish there was a hotline or some kind of test that could be taken so technical people dont have to answer all the silly questions for 10 minutes.

roll on 7 o'clock, lets hope its a BT engineer or technical person.

lol, I was asked to explain what I was going on about. BRAS stands for Broadband Remote Access Server. So tell them that and see what they think!!

"no sir"
"right, get someone higher up please".
