IP Profile is wrong

[link to this post]

Hi

My router/hub has been connected for over 2 days at 1024Kbps but the speed test says my IP Profile is only 500Kbps.

I've just done the BT speed test and here are the results:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1024 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 408 kbps

I've been connected for over 2 days at 1024Kbps now.

How long does it take before my IP profile is updated to 1024k?

Thanks

IP profile is right

See http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/2622-another-max-product-update.html

nb It usually takes 3 days for a profile to come up.

You need to resync above 1152Kbps to get a higher profile. Try rebooting first thing in the morning when there is less traffic.

Thanks for the quick response Colin

Are you saying that if I can get a sync speed of over 1151Kbps for 3 days then my Ip profile will double to 1000KBps +?

When I first got BT (A week ago) I tried my Linksys router and was getting 1600Kbps.

Thanks

Nice one. My link is due to be up for 3 days in about 6 hours so I'll see if it changes.

If it doesn't then I'll try to sync over 1152Kbps tomorrow and leave it for 3 days.

Cheers Buddy

I get a higher sync speed with a Linksys router than the Hub.

I use the Hub though as I have a Hub phone.

Also I find the wireless connection more reliable with the Hub

I think i'll move back to my Linksys then as the RF is good and I don't use any other services.

My line is a little unstable and wont stay up for 3 days. It goes down once a day for a couple of seconds. (It's done that for the last 3 years) probably because of the distance to the exchange.

Will this effect my IP profile?

Does it have to up for a solid 3 days before it recalculates?

Thanks

P.S I'm currently sync'ed at 1664Kbps

Doesn't have to be up for a solid 3 days, but a low sync event will pull it down.

What are your stats on here http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?ce=1&be=0&l0=1&l1=0

Also, if you have an BT NTE5 faceplate http://www.clarity.it/telecoms/nte5_faceoff.jpg, try syncing at the test socket and see if you get a higher result.
Extension wiring can seriously degrade Max DSL performance

Here's some bedtime reading http://freespace.virgin.net/adsl.test/doc2.pdf

Cheers Colin. I'm using my Lynksys router now.

I'll wait until Wednesday moring (which should be 3 days) and see if the ip profile updates.

I'm not using my master socket at the moment so i'll try this on Wednesday if i'm not happy. Then i'll try the test socket.

Cheers

It worked

waited 48 hours and the download speeds have doubled.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1664 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 921 kbps

I'm now getting about 120KBps.

Thanks a lot Colin.

I'll try the mater socket tomorrow to see if I can get over 1728Kbps for a profile of 1500Kbps

Just plugged the router into the master socket and got a sync speed of 1728Kbps.

Within 5 minutes my IP profile was updated to 2500Kbps with these results:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1728 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1408 kbps

I'm very happy now and can get download speeds of 180KBps (which is 3 times faster than yesterday)

Thanks

Dunno how the profile changed to 2500 when your syncing at 1728, and for them to change the profile speed within 5 minutes of your router syncing at a higher rate is very good, I have to wait a stupid 3 days if my router loose's speed.

Glad to see you're making progress and tripled your speed.

Your new IP profile appears to be an anomaly as you should be syncing from 2848KBPS to get that figure. I have also had an IP value shown higher than sync once before.
I would guess that your IP profile is actually 1500Kbps but the checker has misreported it at 2500Kbps.

When I first got my Hub it was only connectiing at about 1Mbps and when I transferred the connection to the master socket it went to over 3Mbps.
I resolved that issue by removing the bell wires from the extensions and I also now use a filtered faceplate.
