LLU Change tommorow, what's going to happen?

[link to this post]

As some of you might have read tommorow is when I go live with BT having instigated an LLU Migration from the woefull Orange.

What I know now
I'm still online with my Orange Logon at what appears to have been a downgrade to 2 meg from 8 meg. This I presume is part and parcel nowadays in the handover.

I presume sometime tommorow (activation day) that an ever so helpfull engineer will physically do something at the exchange or as it's BT I'm going to (presuming I'm on a re-sold BT 2 meg service) not much really apart from say some crucial logon details and maybe upgrade me to a BT 8meg service

As I won't be home tommorow and the mail suggests 8pm as the go live time then what do you think will happen? I'm looking for clues here.

At the moment I judge my online status via the Lynksys modem in 2 ways.
DSL Light on and Green...signal being seen by modem and settings correct
Internet Light on and Green...my logon username/password details verifed and clear to surf

I think the modem settings (which I've pre-checked) are the same except for the username password being different.

Therefore when I get home tommorow I will amend my logon details. Will I initially see both lights be off or the DSL light on and internet off/red until I amend my details?

Sorry about the questions but I just aint as clued up as everyone here...but I try

Mike

If your migrating from an LLU service to BT there will be a physical disconnection of your line at the exchange. You will therefore loose both broadband and phone service while the re-wiring takes place (should be around 30mins). This can happen at any time during the day, for instance my IPstream>LLU migration was done around 6am.
Once your line is reconnected you should be able to sync straight away, but will need to ammend your login details to get a connection.

Thanks for your reply
Something tells me I'll have been subject to two transfers by the time I get BT 8 meg tommorow.

1st) Orange 8 meg to Orange 2 meg (re-sold BT perhaps?) must have already happened as my router now shows a drop in sync speed. Orange Logon details remain valid hence I can type this.

2nd) Tommorow perhaps Orange 2 meg to BT 8meg with a short loss of service as you say when DSL light should come back on and sync quite high but no internet light (or RED) until I change logon details.

Pure speculation I admit...but I think this is what's going on.

Like Christmas Eve here

As you now appear to be on a fixed 2Mb service, there shouldn't be any physical disconnection at all, purely a software change by BT Wholesale / Openreach
You will see the connection go down for 30 mins to a few hours (usually only a 30 mins) and then go back up and when back up you should all being well, fingers crossed, touch wood been migrated to BT

You have pretty much hit the nail on the head re: your 2nd point

Good luck!

I'll let you know tommorow after 8

When I'll either reprt back or be lost in cyberspace

Thank you all for your observations...much appreciated

as a postcript to this my INTERNET light goes off (not the DSL light) so much in the evening it's pretty much anybodys guess what's going on save for I hope that's the end of that issue tommorow.

This is good news, first time I have heard of an LLU mac to BT Broadband migration.

You will have to wait for up to 10 days for speeds to increase as you have entered the max training period
