2500v Router

[link to this post]

Anyone know if the 2500v is locked to BT and if so, can it be unlocked via a firmware update?

Cheers

Stu

At least - mine is locked to BT and I don't know of any way of unlocking it - be interested to see other responses to that one......

Hmmmm....

This link has info stating it is suitable for all ADSL lines including AOL which would suggest they are not locked. Perhaps the ones BT hand out free are locked but the retail version are not?

EDIT Just found this....make sure you right click and save as otherwise IE will try to render the text file. Then go to upgrade in router menu and point it to saved file. This will unlock it to other ISPs apparently

Aha - could well be.

Mine was a freebie from BT to keep me happy after the failure of three hubs (I wanted the BT voice capability)

Now having said that - my original answer was a bit of a kneejerk assumption perhaps!

Looking at the configuration manager there seems to be the ability to change everything necessary to make any connection really (as long as you have all the details for VPI/VCI and so on.

I reckon it's OK for other ISP's after all - just shows how wrong I can be eh??

If you can decipher this, there are a few links to different versions...latest being 19th Feb 2007

Hmmm - Just clicked on the firmware upgrade link in the voyager manager and it tells me that the one I have (3.01z) is the latest for my ISP (which is BT).

All very confusing - but it really does seem that the 2500v isn't locked at all............ My mistake (Sorry)
