Re: Slow web pages

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I've only had this DSL line since Friday, and to start with it was perfect, couldn't fault it. But that last two nights it's been close to unusable.

MSN works fine as does World of Warcraft (although laggy), Webpages are very slow.

I've had a look on my Hub and when I run the "Check Connectivity" button it appears there is a issue with BT's DNS Server.

I get the following results...

Test Results
DSL - Fine
ATM - Fine
PPP - Fine
IP - Fine
Internet
Connectivity to Gateway (217.47.130.186) - Fine
Connectivity to DNS (194.72.9.38 , 194.74.65.68) - Failed

No Idea is this is related though.

Hopefully this is partly due to me saying something.

It's just taken me 4mins to download a 300k jpg file

I'm finding internet gaming unplayable this evening too.
I'm not in the areas shown on the service status page though. I'm in Hemel Hempstead with area code 01442.

My exchange is also not mentioned (01383 Fife Scotland).

Its a strange problem, surfing and file downloads are at a snail pace but when I use the speed tester on this site I get 2.7 megabits / sec which is as fast as its always been. But when I use the BT helpdesk program speed tester I get 0.079 megabits per second !! other speed testers are all over the place also and are nowhere near my usual speeds.
I am however, not complaining just because the speed testers are saying my speeds are slow, I have noticed in the past week or so a real slow down in surfing, pages taking a while to load and slow file downloads etc.

Whatever the issues are, it does seem to be pretty widespread across BT's network. Hopefully there'll be more detailed information forthcoming shortly.

I've just phoned the Support Line (in India) and had the usual no help reply.

As I've only had my line since Friday 16th march, the support guys are saying that my slowness is due to my 10 Day Optimisation Period. I could understand that to some degree, but i can't imagine the optimisation period reducing a Max DSL Customer to the speed of a 56k!

Not happy at the moment.

I thought it was just me. Normally the BBC web site loads in an instant, but lately its been taking ages. Same with other web pages. Speed test says nothing wrong.

Oh well, that's another 30mins I wont get back. Complete waste of time.

My connection is still slow. They got me to do evey trick in their script, which i willing did just to keep them happy. It resulted in their solution being for me to unscrew the phone socket, pull of the face plate and plug the modem directly into the socket behind the face plate! Once I'd done that they told me to wait 24 hours before calling again! How rude!

Anyway...

Connection is still poor and when I run the connectivity test on the Home Hub it's still failing on the Internet part (as below).

Hope this gets resolved soo

I'm suprised with such an obvious loss of QoS that there is no announcement from BT. The length of this thread alone demonstrates that there is an ongoing widespread problem.
