Surprised By This - Opinions please.

[link to this post]

My bt business hub packed up so i rang bt and they said they would send out a replacement which should take 2 days (luckily i had a spare router as back up). Anyway the new hub arrived but not knowing if I should send the old broken one back , i rang them up and was told "just discard it , we replace any faulty equipment in the first year"

Anyone surprised by them not wanting the old one back ? I mean if you were naughty you could easily get another hub for free . Bt's casual attitude impressed me.

Well under the new WEEE directive which comes into force later this year BT will be required by law to take it back as far as I can gather.

I've had 4 hubs, 2 hub phones, a 2500v router and a 2091 router so far.

A couple of faulty hubs which got me to the stage I requested another to keep as a spare as replacements were taking a couple of weeks. (didn't tell them that though )

Complained to BT about the reported number of problems with hubs along with some other issues (namely help desk staffing and lack of referral cheques) and they sent a 2091 router. She phoned to ask how it was and I explained it didn't work with BB Voice and only had 1 ethernet port....lo and behold a 2500v arrived 2 days later!

I've stuck with hub number 3 which has been perfect but at least I have a bucket load of kit to fall back on!

Likewise, BT are working very hard on the home hub and it is an ever evolving product. Expect a firmware update to it next month (April).

I know that I have said this before but I think that is deserves reiteration. I have installed lots of Home Hubs and have only ever had one that didn't work and it was DOA. I have also 'fixed' a HH that BT India said was faulty. Any bad reputation of the HH seems to me to be largely based on the Indian Call Centre; where the Agents send out new hardware in order to clear a problem from their queue - rather than perform a proper diagnosis of the fault.

well.. just to add another experience, I have 4 HH at home.... the first 3 are goosed and the last one will not accept the wireless security key.

Given its my 4th you can imagine the amount of time I have spent on the phone to India and the famous scripts... my wife laughed at me when i came of the phone totally stressed out after trying to explain things(2 hours !!), that is until she picked up an incoming call from India BT when I wasnt there... "No my husband is not here at the moment" "Can I speak to him then"..... x 20... you get the idea.

My experience has left me with the 4th HH never having worked yet. I know if I phone India they will ask screeds of questions from the script regardless of me having done it all before. Then they will try to connect using the data cable, which, is too far from my desktop to the HH !!! grrr....

Based on the above I returned to my Voyager 2110 router which has worked 100% of the time over 2 years. I only wanted a HH to use the phone, which now lies idle, gathering dust... waste of

WOOF !
