Option 3 Fair Use Policy

[link to this post]

Anyone know how the FUP is implemented on Option 3?

Does it apply at peak times in any calendar month so speeds would increase at the start of the next month or is it on a 'rolling' basis so the management would be lifted after 30 days of 'acceptable' use and could therefore be lifted at any period during the month?

Thanks

Stu

As far as I know its only at peak times with traffic shaping.

from what we have been able to figure out traffic management kicks in around 4pm and leaves us again around midnight every night

Is that the traffic management system that the cancellations team say doesn't exist? Oh, and there is no FUP on Option 3?!

Anyhow, when I was with BT it did seem to kick in around 4PM, although it seemed that on the odd occasion it wouldn't kick out until 1AM..

But does it kick in for day, week, month etc at peak time. If someone hit the theoretical limit on the 10th of a month, they would be throttled at peak times but when...right away, next week, next month?

doesn't seem to matter any more... for a 5 hour period somewhere roughly between 4pm and 1am you will get throttling on certain applications... regardless of your useage stats.

basically bt bought plusnet why ??? only reason i can see was for their traffic management system and low and behold about 3 months after the purchase of plusnet we are all systematicaly managed betwenn 4pm and midnight daily. My understanding is its ment to be aimed at those of us who d/l betweeen those times and from my experiance it looks that way cant maintain a torrent over 30k in that time zone but surfing and gamming etc are alll ok (on a personnal note occasionaly i do sufer from slow web pages but bt seems to be ironing out the kinks) so now all i suffer from is slow torrents so i dont bother within that time zone outside of the peek period full d/l speeds apply

Totally agree... I'm not a particulary heavy user, use the Internet on and off all day every day and come 4pm my 6-8MB throughput just dies completely on HTML traffic rendering it virtually useless. How BT can deny they have implemented traffic management with all the complaints here and elsewhere beggars belief.

I rarely get HTTP throttling - tho sometimes pages stall for awhile when first loading during peak times - but I can DL a file via HTTP at 400+KB/s normally at any time of day... there have been the odd day tho when HTTP has been throttled to 30KB/s too not sure why.
