New BT connection

[link to this post]

Hi All,

So i have a new BT adsl connection but it's still syncing at 2mbit/s.
Received equipment on the 18th of May, connected it up straight away and all was working (syncing at 2mbit/s, ip profile locked at 250kbps).
It upgraded from 250kbps to 2mbit/s on the 23rd pm.

Before the BT line I had a bulldog connection, which was faultlessly connecting at 8mbit/s. I want at least 4mbit/s, or preferably 8mbit/s with BT.

Any ideas on the best route of action to getting this fixed.

Thanks
James

ahh a ex bulldog connection. What does it say when you put your phone number in on the right of this page? http://eco.btwholesale.com/broadband1/

If you previously synced at 8meg with Bulldog if I remember correctly you need to call 151 from your BT Phone line and report a false red.

Hi,

Thanks for your help.
Heres the output:

In reply to:

For Telephone Number [telephone_number] on Exchange WILLOWCROFT

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 2Mbps or greater.

The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

Thank you for your interest.

Srry but I'm not absolutely sure what your problem is. The ADSL estimete for your line is 2Mb/s and that seems to be what you are getting. Or have got the wrong end of the stick.

You previous ISP is normally an LLU supplier and so would be using different kit to BT.

Re: New BT connection UPDATE

[re: Beerhunter] [link to this post]

Update
------

So i phoned BT today, here's what happened.

After trying to tell the first operator that i wasn't a moron for 30 minutes i requested to speak to another operator. This new operator was much more helpful, she had me remove the outer part of my front faceplate and connect only my router. She then got me to give her results of speed tests from http://speedtest.bt.com, http://2wire.com and asked for my line stats on the routers homepage.

Then i was passed along to the "line fault department". This guy was a little dumb and made me do exactly the same as what the previous operator asked me to do. At the end of the call he said that my line was now being investigated and they would call me back in 2 hours to check the status of the router. Well it has now been 4 hours, no call back yet but a big improvement in line speed.

My router now reports this:
Downstream: 7616Kbps
Upstream: 448Kbps

from ftp.blueyonder.co.uk (FlashFXP):
Transferred: linux-2.6.20.6.tar.gz 52.03 MB in 1 minute 37 seconds (548.1 KB/s)

from speedtest.bt.com:
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4362 kbps

from adslguide speed test:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/11821941094477249071.html

I'm delighted with my results, and amazed that BT actually resolved this issue (in about 3 hours from when it was reported)

Regards
James
