Update
------
So i phoned BT today, here's what happened.
After trying to tell the first operator that i wasn't a moron for 30 minutes i requested to speak to another operator. This new operator was much more helpful, she had me remove the outer part of my front faceplate and connect only my router. She then got me to give her results of speed tests from
http://speedtest.bt.com,
http://2wire.com and asked for my line stats on the routers homepage.
Then i was passed along to the "line fault department". This guy was a little dumb and made me do exactly the same as what the previous operator asked me to do. At the end of the call he said that my line was now being investigated and they would call me back in 2 hours to check the status of the router. Well it has now been 4 hours, no call back yet but a big improvement in line speed.
My router now reports this:
Downstream: 7616Kbps
Upstream: 448Kbps
from ftp.blueyonder.co.uk (FlashFXP):
Transferred: linux-2.6.20.6.tar.gz 52.03 MB in 1 minute 37 seconds (548.1 KB/s)
from speedtest.bt.com:
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4362 kbps
from adslguide speed test:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/11821941094477249071.html
I'm delighted with my results, and amazed that BT actually resolved this issue (in about 3 hours from when it was reported)
