Line attenuation reduced

[link to this post]

Does anyone have an explanation for the fact that my router stats today show a line attenuation of 15.1 dB instead of the usual 55.0 dB. The latter figure is much more likely to be right than 15.1 dB, given my distance from the exchange (about 3 kilometres).

I had a problem last night with BT Talk (loss of dial tone) which I rectified by rebooting the router (Voyager 220V). As expected, the speed is somewhat down today but not out of the usual range for me.

I recall its an intermittent issue with some voyagers. A reboot usually returns the correct value

Thanks - I'll try turning off tonight and back on early tomorrow a.m. There's some electrical activity in the weather here now.

The Belkin 7633 also has a habit of reading a 15db line attenuation (usually just before the web-server poos itself).
