BT Yahoo software - needed?

[link to this post]

When I signed up with BT about a year ago, I followed all the instructions on the disc they sent, which leaves me with a lot of Yahoo programs [browser and associated bits and bobs]. I have used the browser now and then but none of the other things and wonder if I can safely remove the 82MB's worth of things from my computer? Any words of advice?

Personally, on the first occasion I put my Home Hub on i used all The BT software . I then quickly went to add/remove programs, selected Bt Yahoo Applications. You can then remove whatever you like. I removed the lot. Now I just plug in Hub, or in my case Voyager 2500v and let windows find it. Then put in security codes when asked.

Thanks for that. Can you just clarify a point for me. All I would want to leave is the Router Manager access so, if I do that, is there any change to the connection configuration or will things just work as now?

If using a BT router you can access the router management by going to http://api.home

Thanks Paul. I'd rather leave an easy access point [for others for instance]. So really all the software provided at installation is unnecessary [I'm not making an issue of that, by the way]?

Take note of Pauls answer, he knows much more than me.

Yes if you know what your doing it is unnecessary but and this is the big but if you don't know your way around a computer or a router I would say the software is very handy.

Even if you don't use the browser etc you don't seem very adept with a computer, its 90MB on the disk thats nothing in the gigabyte world of today home computers got just shy of 1TB storage keeping the software on here is nothing.

So if you know what your doing then yes its unnecessary but if you don't it can come in very handy.

Echo what Paul says. I have limited knowledge and have used BT software to help sort connection problem out.

However, after a complete hard disk reformat and fresh install of XP and drivers, I find that windows sorts my connection out easily. So really stick to what you are comfortable with.

Thanks to both. I agree that the space on the drive is not a real consideration for me now and I'll "keep it under review".

Right click on your desktop

goto New
Then shortcut.

put in the Location Box
http://api.home (or the address of your router if different)

press next

put in the name box whatever you want to call it.

Now you have a shortcut on your desktop that when you click it should open up your deafult webbrowser on the routers config/status pages.
