Upstream Stuck on 64Kbps

[link to this post]

For 2 days now the maximum upstream i get is 64Kbps.

even tried my good old usb adsl modem - same thing.

This happened before when I was stuck on 128 Kbps but a reboot of the router solved it - BUT NOT ANYMORE

Rang BT Helpdesk - nothing they can do, I have to ring "Network Management"

Any ideas what could cause this ?

I'm giving up.

Working as normal again. Noticed snr margin went up.

You have a noisy line, try changing your microfilters and plugging the home hub into the master socket.

Only 1 Socket in the house and that has got an ADSL faceplate fitted.

It is fairly obvious that you have an intermittent noise source causing problems in the upstream band. I could be in our house, the neighbour below if you are in a flat, in the street close by. It could be a long slow process to find out what is causing it.

Could be as simple as an air conditioner clicking off/on or its fans causing problems

That was the basis of my comment about people below ... I have just had a look at a connection for a friend of a friend and the shop below had just installed a new aircon immediately below the main socket.

I recently had the same problem.

Get a corded phone that you know is good, plug it into the master socket.

Use the quiet line test (17070 option2) to get silence.

Bump the faceplate, wiggle and pull on cables, etc. See if you can find a dodgy connection.

On mine, It was the connection between the test socket and the faceplate that was causing problems, but it took me a few days of testing to finally reproduce the problem.

You can try cleaning the test socket (switch cleaner) and maybe put a bit more tension on the contacts by gently bending them.

Don't forget things like the cable between the faceplate and the router could be faulty - try known good items.

Thanks for the comments.

Makes sence a REIN Issue.

The guy living below me is using a radio transmiter etc. He also has a great antenna on our roof.

You may have your answer - ask him when he is using it and see it if coincides with your loss of speed. If it does then technically he needs to resolve te problems - extra shielding, filters (if appropriate) move the antenna, cable and transmitter.
