Dead home hub

Hi, How oftern do the home hubs die?
My gramps hub sounds like it's died - it only shows the data light after turning on.

mine died instantly when i gave it a straight right after it kept dropping the connection and i am in bliss now using a 3com router.

the hub for me was very poor on my long line and i have seen one or two reported failures, have you tried resetting it ? power down and up again ?

I know hes' done a powercycle and gone though BT's problem finding and found the cd woudn't see it.
He's ordered a new one - I wish he was closer as I would have gone round with a spair asus router I've got to test the line.,

Do you know if it's a new shape (square rather than oblong) homehub ? If it is, then try using a paperclip or somesuch and keep inserted into the 'restore to default' hole on the right hand side about half way down. Hold in until the power light goes back to orange, remove and wait.

Also if this was a new install, it may be worth trying a different RJ11 lead, as have a spate of these being faulty round this way.

Will be the old shape as it's 15months old.

Just the wireless light you say ? Sounds borked, your Dad isn't around the Thames Valley is he ? Had some major lightening round this way at the weekend .....

Had a couple die on me at the very start 2 years ago then got one which worked fine for a year. Changed that out for the new smaller version on purely aesthetic grounds and even the new one has been rock solid.

As for the hub you mention it sounds completely dead, you could try unplugging it and leaving it for a few weeks they seem to work after that. Other than that try resetting it, on the older ones you hold down the "Wireless Association" button on the back for 5 seconds until the phone light flashes and then hold it down again until it clicks and then it will factory reset.

But no he's in St Albans, he just says data light so I assume wireless.
Told him to keep hold of it as if its not borked then I'll stick it on ebay

data light is far right light and wireless is 2nd from left so not same thing
I am looking directly at mine now lol
