Roku thro BT HH 2.0 wired ethernet connection

[link to this post]

I've been trying to get a Roku Soundbridge M1001 working through a wired ethernet connection using a Firefly media server through my BT HH 2.0.

Further details of my investigation are on the following Roku forum:

http://forums.rokulabs.com/viewtopic.php?t=18363&highlight=jawdrops

The equipment works fine wirelessly (but unfortunately I want to use a wired connection 'cause of the distances involved - I don't need advice like move the router!).

It looks as though the Firefly media server uses a multicast protocol which is switched on in wireless mode but not in the wired mode.

Any ideas about how multicast could be enabled for the wired ports?

Regards

Im out of my depth on this one, as I've never had to deal with a Media Server BUT !

I do a lot of online gaming, and I'd like to let you know there is a firewall on all the BT Homehubs.
On the PC's which would be running the games, you could create exceptions on the Windows firewalls to let the traffic through.
You would have to let the traffic through for your ethernet connections obviously.

What i found after troubles with being unable to game online, was the firewall exceptions options on the BT homehub, seemed to be nothing but a placebo in my view.
Because all my pc's have their own firewalls, i opted to turn the BT firewall off completely. doing so cured all my online gaming problems.

OK thanks for the thought. I've had a go at tinkering with the firewall but to no avail. maybe I'll try disconnecting, as you suggest, but I'll do it while I'm not connected to the internet.

Any other thoughts about how to solve in a way that leaves the firewall intact?
