Firmware Upgrade = Contacts List Broken

[link to this post]

My homehub 2 has decided to throw a fit.

It seems to have done the auto-update that is going round just now, and is now on 8.1.H.G.

Unfortunately, the upgrade seems to have broken the telephone side of things...

1) Any attempt to use the shared contacts (to look up a number, try and save a new one, etc.) gives a "x - Not available" message.
2) None of the phones update their date and time from the hub.

Un- and re-registering the phones from hub or phone end makes no difference, and have power-cycled and soft reset the hub a few times (also phones) to no effect.

Anyone got any ideas? The very last option is to factory reset the hub and phones, but I've got two problems there,

a) I will definitely, definitely lose the contacts list if I do this.
b) The phone handsets don't accept the system pin of 0000 for a full reset.

Nice work Broadband Hardware People. A firmware upgrade that doesn't fix the real problems, but creates some new ones instead...

It wouldn't be BT if it didn't create some new problems! My Hub Phone 2.1 wont even connect to my hub, sits saying cannot connect to hub, has done for almost a year now.

To be fair to Thomson, the new HH update seems to have fixed the wireless IP issue as well as Bonjour! Amazing but further testing required.

Well, the plot thickens!

Found all 3 handests this morning with a "software update completed" message, despite trying to update the handsets manually last night and being told no update was available.

The handset software has changed from 1676 (or something close to that) to 1935. Although the hub denies ever having updated them!

So, at a guess the handset firmware is pushed separately from the hub firmwares, and the handsets only check locally for new firmware.

There's also some odd messages appearing in the event log every 30 minutes, (dunno if these appeared before, as it worked I never looked)

08:11:15 23 May VOIP: [2.0A] [my bbt number] [FXS DECT1 DECT2 DECT3 DECT4 DECT5] 200 OK - SIP message received
08:11:15 23 May VOIP: [2.0A] [my bbt number] [FXS DECT1 DECT2 DECT3 DECT4 DECT5] REGISTER - SIP message sent

And some good \ bad news.

Good - Contacts list is available again.
Bad - Only the first contact in the list is available.

So, off to do some more assorted rebooting and resetting, to see what happens next.

OK,

Deregister phone handsets,
Switch handsets off,
Soft reset of hub (button on side)
Switch on and re-register each handset.

No joy. The contacts list works, in that you can find the first contact (and the two numbers in that first contact), but no others. Adding a new contact works fine, so it seems that the contact list is gone, unless anyone has any ideas?

(Been doing some research)

You know the annoying thing? It's looks possible to backup and restore the phonebook entries via CLI, if it was accessible.

www.thomsonbroadbandpartner.com/getfile.php?id=6392 (tg797, appears to be the basis for the BT unit)

And take a look at the voice commands available in the CLI, if it was accessible, eg, page 830.

I can't imagine it would be *that* tough to script a phonebook tool to use on the customer's PC, instead of typing it in via the handset. Imagine, an Outlook -> Homehub contacts transfer, how nice would that be?

(sighs, gets ready to type in loads of numbers, again)
