Transfering to BT

[link to this post]

How long do BT take to issue an activation date after being provide with a MAC code from another ISP? I provided a MAC code on Monday morning and have heard nothing by 18.00 on Friday - despite making several phone calls.

When connecting to BT, is the userid and password stored in the router checked?
(I have read that it is not used but am wondering if that is really true.)

The username is [email protected] and there is no password required. If your router needs a password use bt.

Have you been given your primary email address yet?

Thanks. No I have not been issued with an email address. I do have an old btinternet.com email address which still works from the days when I used their dial up service, and which I told them about when I made the online application.

Sadly the order number in the email sent to me is not shown.

Activation will generally be 5 working days after receiving the order. It cannot be done any earlier due to anti-slamming regulations.

How come on a migration from a BT Wholesale-based ISP to O2 LLU the activation date is texted within hours of the order?

Even that delay seems to be down to O2 receiving a date from Openreach having submitted the order and MAC to them. The date is I imagine purely dependent on Openreach scheduling. (Unless a premium is paid).

One of the major points about a MAC is that it prevents slamming - at least between ISPs, as the new ISP cannot obtain it except through the subscriber.

Bob's broadband basic info/help site:
www.robertos.me.uk
ISP history: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.
Purple Cloud for domain, email and web space.

Thank you. The problem that I have is that after almost 5 working days since receiving the MAC they have not advised an activiation date. I would have exoected to be told the activation date when the order was placed or maybe a day later.

Hi Michael_Chare,

Once an order has been placed using a MAC code it should take around 5 working days for your Broadband to be changed over to BT. I would like to take a look at your order to see what is happening. Please could you drop me an email to [email protected] with your BT account details and any order number you might have? Please also include your forum username. Once I have received those details, I will investigate this and reply to you directly.

Thanks

Paddy,

Thanks

Paddy,

Thank you for your reply.

My order has now been processed and I have been issued with an
activation date which I have agreed.

This was (to my surprise) done on Saturday morning after I made my 4th phone call. I spoke to the same person as I gave the MAC code to on the Monday before.

I have sent you an email with the order number. Please would you investigate and explain why the order was delayed.

(Something appears to have changed as (by mistake) I was able to send the email message via my btinternet.com email account, which normally that only works if I have a dial up connection!)
