Now Leaving BT

After SIX phonecalls (several were cut off) to an Indian BT callcentre with terribly distorted audio to add to the struggle with the language, I finally got my MAC code over the phone today to leave BT. Like ALL ISP's, the Customer service call center was an absolute nightmare.
I have spent the last couple of years on BT phone Option 3, and BT Broadband Max Option 3. Add to that the cost of a few calls to mobiles, and the monthly cost ranged from £45 - £50.
I have had a fairly good broadband service, but have become increasingly fed up with BT sly price increases and hidden contract clauses. The first one was the fact that they have a 100Gb cap on "Unlimited" Broadband. Then there were things like auto-renewal of contracts, Connection charges that have gradually crept up to near 10p, scrapping per-second billing, rounding up call costs to the next penny. All on top of already high prices.
So, five minutes after getting my MAC code, i have applied for Post Office HomePhone With Broadband Extra. It offers the same 8Gb Unlimited, along with Line Rental, Free evening & Weekend calls to UK numbers, free weekend calls to Mobiles & 40 world destinations, 10% off your most used numbers, along with a free 60 minute call to your friends & Family at Christmas and their birthday. All this for £25 50p per month. The only addition is £1.75p for caller display to drive my TrueCall unit. £27.25p is a vast difference, that just leaves daytime 01/02 call to be taken care of, but as I have Skype "Unlimited Country" for £3.22 per month, that is taken care of, along with a Skype mobile to phone home for free.

And if you had Sky TV, you could have paid even less for more...............

No go with SKY here I'm afraid. No LLU on our exchange. As for Sky< I dumped that greedy bunch ages ago. I now have Freesat where I don't have to pay a crook to record on my own HDD. As for all the SKY premium content like Football etc, I can watch them for free at www.livescorehunter.com and all the HD documentaries on Miro, all for Free.

No, I am a supporter of fully exploiting unlimited broadband, and not much of a forum lover.
I consider it similar to TVCatchup that is considered the same as cable and allowed under section 73 of the copyright act. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1988/ukpga_19880048_...

Another point in favour of The Post Office, is NO minimum contract on their Home Phone service, which is much better than long locked in auto-renewing contracts. Also, I am looking forward to UK callcentres, which I am not expecting to be anything other than poor like the rest, but at least I should understand their accent.

The Fair Usage Policy with BT Broadband Option 3 is capped at 100 GB's........ but what is the amount for the Post Office?

I've left BT too, Option 3... my bill was hitting £50-60 per month.

I don't know if Post Office broadband has a cap on the unlimited. Their FUP just states that they expect users to be considerate between 6.00 and 11.00pm like many others.
BT state something similar in their FUP, but it makes NO mention of there being a 100Gb cap on the "Unlimited" service, they just suddenly threaten to throttle you to 1Gb speed 24/7 for a month if you near the 100Gb hidden limit, so I cannot see the Post Office being any worse at half the price.
I think many do not realise what is offered by Post Office Broadband, because any comparison site I have visited, have never given them as an option for my postcode, when in reality, they are available to everyoue.

I have hit 80Gb twice in the last 20 months, how can people go above 100GB all the time?

Most ISPs that use the Bt network will cap, if they don't then they will lose money.
