BT isnt that bad trust me :)

just thought i would put a little thread on how excellent it has been since coming back to BT, i dont feel they get enough praise in this forum and i will tell you why.

I have recently came out of the worst 2 months of broadband ever with Sky, download speed were pathetic!! 0.5 down and 0.3 up to start with ( can get 8 mb in my area) so i thought give them te benefit of the doubt and it will increase over time, WRONG lol speeds got worse, connections dropping, terrible customer service, i could go on.

Aince oordering BT only last tuesday i have had my home hub since yesterday and hub phone, took literally 10 mins to set everything up and get online.
speeds on day 2 are 5.9 down adn 0.5 up.....for day 2 of having my hub this is a zillion times better already than sky, very fast, very efficent, very very happy BT customer,

Was you on Sky LLU?
Sky's LLU is pretty good by all accounts, if you are not in a Sky LLU area, then it can be awful, just like O2.

When I first came back to Bt, I thought they had change and was better, the sad fact they have not, in fact they are worse.

They shape my connection like hell any time of day and yes I am a heavy user, but I don't normally go anywhere near their limit.

Customer service is awful, it really is, I dread phoning them up if I need anything, that is why I sent a email for my MAC.

I hope you are happy with Bt, myself I am going, had enough of it.

I used to be on BT my only ISP until sky, which is for me is much better. BT were good, very stable connection but yes the CS support is terrible they even lied to me.

When I asked to leave they asked why? I said because we were getting throttled because we hit the "100GB" limit to which CS replied you have only did 16GB in that last 6 months... I told her I downloaded a game (via Steam) bigger than that in one day to which she went ahead and cancelled wink. (Ceased line as moved house and ISP)

Sky CS for me so far has been terrible too, often so hard to get a simple job done but not had any probs recently. Don't know how much OP tried to get the probs fixed but not suprised by his comments judging by my experiences of CS of Sky.

I`ve been a BT customer for a number of years (Option 3) and I`ve not had any major concerns with them. I`ve found the offshore call-centres sometimes more of a hindrance than a help. I use the UK Technical Helpdesk, and they do everything in their power to ensure that my problem is sorted when I`ve had to contact them.
I suppose all ISP`s have their problems and customers will probably not get 100% results from their complaints.
But as I say, I`m happy with BT.............unlike some smile

(maybe it`s because my telephone exchange is only a 3 minute walk away)

My main problem with BT is the shaping, I get synced at about 2.8Mbits, not going to get much more than that because of the long cables, even though I am not that far away from the exchange. Sync speed is different to actual download speed and while I don't expect to get full sync speed on downloading, because of over heads and because of the way the BT system works, i do expect to download a bit faster than 1Mbit.

It don't matter if your house is attached to the exchange, if your connection is shaped, then you will get a lower download speed.

Bt seems to be getting worse, even if I don't go anywhere near the limit. Trying to watch Iplayer last night was impossible due to buffering.

That is one of the reasons I am leaving Bt and also because I want to save some money.

We will see if I made the right choice by going with a cable and wireless reseller, if it is as good as people are telling me, then I think have. Maybe at long last I will have found a ISp for my needs and not have to change over again.

Good luck with Bt.

I personally didn't like the thought of having to go with BT after moving home 2 years ago but I am more than happy. I have never been throttled (day or night) regularly get over 6 meg speed and after being with them for 18 months (contract renewal time) I emailed asking what they could do price wise and they dropped the price below £18 per month for option 3 to keep me as a customer (I wasn't thinking of changing but you don't get unless you ask)
I live in a small village with 715 users on a non LLU exchange so am very happy with the speeds and reliability of connection is excellent too. I wouldn't say as a family we are very heavy users but we do have 3 laptops and an i phone in use most nights.
Only had to use CS once in over two years and although it was overseas (India I think) they sorted my issue out very professionally and quickly.
I guess like all ISP's it's a case of where you live and how heavily the lines are being used. BT do tend to get slated but I am very happy.
