BT Business Hub V6

[link to this post]

The 2wire 2700HGV v6

I have set the wireless channel to 13 - and I have two other WAPs on 9 and 5. My neighbours have a total of 4 WAPs - all on Channel 1 and hence my channel selection.

Last night I was doing some changes and updating the key on them and that required a config save. So, I know the v6 hub is on Ch 13 - according to the interface.

When I use inSSIDer I can see the channels in use. Last night the v6 was on 13, but this morning it is on Ch 1 - the worst possible. Has anyone else seen the problem?

I seem to recall this happening a while ago on HH's. IIRC, a firmware update set the (Then poor) automatic channel selection to always active regardless of what was set via the interface.

Auto should look and find the best channel - with 4 other APs on Ch1 why would it choose that ? BT are sending another hub - I'll see what that does.

Because the auto selection fails? Again, I'm quite sure this is what happened before.

Your first post seemed to suggest that manual selection failed and it went to auto whereas here it always jumps to Ch1.

Remember the Business Hub is totally different to the HH - different make completely.

I'm pretty sure that the fault was described on these forums but I may be wrong and it would have been some time ago. IIRC, the firmware update was intended to, among other things, fix the auto select problem whereby auto always selected the same channel regardless. Rather than fixing the fault, it exacerbated it by setting the selection to the still broken auto selection whatever was selected via the interface.
I'm also pretty sure that it was the BHH that was affected.

I don't think I'm far wrong but memory is fast becoming a stranger now. wink

The other oddity - mentioned above is the spectrum.

I managed to force the BH up to 13, but it will soon drop back.

Have a look at: Spectrum

Strange how the HH has a very square capped spectrum compared to all others - the three unknowns are mine. Put two Openzone WAPs down at Ch1 and you will see why I need to avoid it.

That is very square but I'm at a loss to know why unless proximity is a factor.
I've done a scan around here and there is only one HH showing. The interesting thing is that it is using channel 1 too and I know that another HH user not far away and possibly within range of the one that I can see is also using channel 1.
I would have thought that the supplied hubs would be set to auto select by default and if that is the case, then perhaps the bug I mentioned above is still prevalent?

That HH is a little further away from me than my three WAPs (I am in the one spot where I can see all three - but am still connected on a Gigabit wired link). The one called Goldmedal is probably three times as far away from me than the HH and in the opposite direction so neither of those can see each other.

The sqaureness, to me, suggests that there is an output stage fault and the drivers are hitting the rail.

As to the "squareness", your guess makes sense.
Slightly OT but I've just dug out an HH2 that I've been meaning to unlock. The default channel setting was auto and set to 1 even though next door's TT router is also set to 1 with a strong signal. Setting the channel to 6 seemed to work but we'll see what happens when I turn it back on later.
