Go to start button (bottom left I guess) then control panel, and Hardware and sound.
(is on windows 7), Xp will be similar. Need to find Device manager. open that and find Network adapters and there will be the name or manufacture of the wirless card and network card. Broadcom ethernet and intel WIFI on mine, depends on who makes it.
Right click one at a time and click enablle if they got a small downwards arrow in the little logo thing at the start of its name. sounds windows has disabled.
Might be more to it than enabling. A reinstall of the drivers might be needed if it keeps playing up.
Have you had the wireless going on the HH3 before. password is on the pull out card on the back. Easy and proberly saying what you know!.
do the device manager thing first.
|
|
|
Also try disabling wireless N mode on the HH3.
If that fixes it, then look for new drivers for the machines wireless card, and try fiddling with the settings.

A bit extreme!.
windows is dseigned to annoy. Mine does, always not responding and geiing it going from turning on and settling down. About 4 minutes. Horrible 2 year old thing.
Hope it all works but reinstalling the card first would be the easier bet I would have tnought.

I don't think it will be anything to do with your system, just the logon details for the wireless are not what you are using.

A different Home Hub? Will have a different wireless security password, and maybe the encryption type as well.

dont think its the logon details as i tried my phone on wireless while engineer was here with details from the HH & it worked straight away so i think ts my laptop, ill try to connect with my xbox later on wireless after i finish moveing my files from my laptop, if my xbox connects with wireless dosnt that mean it was my laptop.

And you have changed the details in the laptop to match?
If yes, then I'm probably wrong, but why an Infinity install should touch your laptop at all I don't know. You didn't, or the engineer didn't, load the CD I hope?
Edit - typo.

This was a 'managed install' for BT Infinity, the engineer will connect one lappy/Mac/PC wired or wireless, your choice, and then demo it as working.
I am however, with you, on the 'it's just a setting on the wireless adaptor.'

Hello
So has the WPS button on the side of the HH been pressed then try and get the wireless kit (computer or games machine) to log on.
I cant remember what I did in May when getting this but you do press a button on the ruter, some light flashes and you have a bit of time to log a wireless client to it whhile light is on. Normally how they work with a WPS button.
Could try but got no more wireless things to log on to the BT hub!.
Noticed the bit you wrote above and Xbox going so not what I said about the WPS button then.
Out of ideas.
Encription is good and normal so all ok.
Must be the computer.
What is there on right clicking the wireless card in device manager and doing Propities, advanced, wireless mode.
Is it on N wirless. Mine is and same make of computer and goes.
Just a thought. Is the wireless card enabled in the device manager. You said logged into the HH so guessing something is working, Wired or wireless..

changed settings in HH from WPA & WPA2 to WPA & had to change my wireless key name Xbox has picked it up now, is WPA secure enough if so ill leave it like that as my Xbox works now now im going to do a system restore on my laptop & see if that picks up the wireless on HH.

Your laptop should pick it up without a system restore as long as you set it to whichever you mean of WPA and WPA2, as you have contradicted yourself, and get the Key dead right.
WPA is OK, if that's all the XBox can manage. WPA2 is good.

not sure if i have contradicted my self if i have im sorry, all i ment was the setting on HH when i got into it was WPA & WPA2 & my laptop & Xbox didnt pick it up, the setting now is WPA2, is that safe enough to use on my laptop once i get it to pick up again & can anyone easily piggy back on my wireless, sorry if i confused you.

|
|
WPA2 is the best setting that you can use at this time, assuming the wireless key is not one that someone can guess.

I was going to say as had a thought in bed, and not wanting to make anyone sound stupid as the obvious but was going to say has the wireless on off button been pressed. Some are a small sliding switch on the edge somewhere (friends is) and acer (mine anyway) a row of 3 buttons above the F1 to F4 and wireless the first one.
But then ethernet ,network hole would stil go and I thought that did not from what I read, another idea but you have done now anyway.
Computers, here on this world to get on your nerves.
Mine does.
I wrote to acer once within weeks of having this thing asking how the bluetooth is enabled, is there a connector on the board to plug into or is the wireless card a WIFI and blutotth in one (exist on ebay for not £18). would do myself.
Got the answer back they would not say as dont wont us untrained monkeys playing with their computers. (whos computer and my choice, not lining their pockets for a cheap part and undoing the casing).
Great answer.
Good luck if you ever have to contact.
My 2 years is coming to an end so wont have to I hope.
wandering off the point.
What did you find and do to get going, interesting to know.

What I thought but a new computer so maybe not much on it.
I would not be keen doing this after 2 years and everything on it but mine plays up and might be the way one day when I have days spare to do.
Horrible **** windows!.
Or get a new machine (NOT). After this over priced thing of £650 in PC world and found on internet next day at about £480 I think. Was a rush job at night before 8pm closing as the old one died and so pushed its luck for the last time of spending money putting right Unpluggable laptop graphics card hard to find and always german ebay for £150 or so a time, after 2 I gave up and off to PC world 12 miles away!.

Gave up on the HHs yonks ago, dunno if the HH3 is any better but out of curiosity setup my HH2 again on G wireless ( n wireless used to crash when using my Blackberry ) and its still pants, dropping wireless signals to my PC. So back to the Buffulo router which just works!
|
|
|
|
I found the HH3 to be pretty awful for wireless in terms of compatibility. Some devices connected without issue. Others would connect sometimes (ipad) where as others just plain refused! I am sure it is bugs in the HH3 because when I did a test with all security disabled, everything worked!
Given up on the HH3 now and got a Draytek 2750n instead (not just because of wireless). Every device I have connected first time to that without issue!

Been using the HH3 since April with no issues. I have a PC connected via Ethernet and a laptop that i connect via Wi-Fi from an office that is separate from and at the back of the house. Never had any issues picking up the wireless signal. I think my laptop has a built in 'N' adaptor and get very good throughput speeds.
