Now given up with BT Routers

[link to this post]

Now given up with BT Routers
Hub 1/2 passable
Hub3 with Infinity, more or less Ok but still flaky.
Hub 4, had 3 replacements , constant resets every 2 or 3 days.
The BT Hub 5, well what can I say that has already been said on many forums.
First Hub 5, resets every 5 to 8 Hrs, replaced. no improvement.
Now on number 5 ( the last one I will have ) still resetting 6 times a day.
I think BT by now must know the problems but can't or won't fix.
Now using a Asus router without any problems, cost me £100 though, but worth it for a stable connection.
Anyone that has a reliable Hub 5 should treasure it.

My hh2 seems not to like my AppleTv. I have a good idea it's the hh fault.
Every so often the atv just stops, the router just doesn't pass on the data. This is streamed data from my computer all over wired connections.
The reason I have a good idea is that my daughter had a hh3 in her house and was having the same trouble. She since switched to sky with a new router and hasn't experienced any problems at all.

So why did it take so long?

HH1 and 2 "passable" - will let you off with that!

HH3 "more or less Ok but still flaky" - hmmm!

HH4 "had 3 replacements , constant resets every 2 or 3 days" - trend building up here!

HH5 - must ask WHY!

I hope you didn't pay for any of these?

BT Infinity 2 - IP profile 77 / 20 - super fast!
Previously BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload but then moved house - 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download

Why did it take so long!
Blind faith in BT I suppose.
Yes, I paid for the hub 5. My mistake!
Not met anyone that hasn't made a mistake "yet"
Not much chose form where I live. It's BT or Talktalk for infinity

TalkTalk doesn't sell Infinity. Infinity is a BT Retail product name for Openreach FTTC and FTTP using BT Wholesale.

TalkTalk sells the Openreach FTTC but not through BT Wholesale. Just like its ADSL2+ LLU.

Nearly every ISP in the country sells the same Openreach/BT Wholesale FTTC products. A few sell the FTTP.

So assuming you are on FTTC, you have over 100 ISPs to choose from.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I was considering an Apple Airport extreme as a replacement, anyone used these with infinity?

My parents have a 2012 Extreme as their router connected to a Huawei HG612 modem. They're on BT Infinity as an ISP.

James BT Infinity 2 19/09/2012 - Sold 42/6, Now 52/9, Sync @ 55 / 9.5 Mbps @ 470m approx
15 years broadband (1999 ntl: cablemodem, BT FTTC) - Router: Asus RT-AC68U (merlin) - Modem: HG612 unlocked Typical speedtest

Feel your pain.

I'm on 76mb fiber, get full speed through ethernet but over wifi the HH5 is absolute garbage. I'm lucky to get 30Mb.

Every 5 days it reboots itself.

I'm looking at getting a HG612 and i'm tempted to use an old WNR2000 that was used on Virgin cable.

Yep, I've been using an AE with my BT infinity for 3 years now. As soon as the BT installers left, the HH was put back in its box and the AE was connected.

Been using the airport extreme for a while now with no problems.
I had occasional problems with Apple TV buffering using the HH2, no longer with the airport extreme.
There is also an added advantage of being able to set up a guest wifi network that visitors can use.

No experience with earlier models, but had a HH4 since January and no issues. It reset itself setting up FON within first 24/48 hours.

Then when a Openreach engineer at cabinet - had a reset.

Other than that - rock solid performance over ethernet & wifi.

Not disregarding your issues, but just giving a different view.

Yea it could have been the HH2 and HH3 not being suited to this, I don't know why.
I just didn't want to fork out for a new HH and would rather go down the Apple route since I use mostly Apple equipment. The extreme (5th gen) was only £50 of ebay.

The Extreme is very similar to the HH4 and 5 since its dual band WiFi, whereas the 3 is only 2.4GHz, and the 2 very old. The Extreme is a good bit of kit, but lacks features. I bought new and sold on eBay for more than you paid, nice price smile

I've not used It with infinity but currently use a 5th gen with virgin media 152mb services and its perfect.

Even manage 160mb over 5ghz wifi if I have multicast rate set to high but on medium it still shoots up to and past 100mbps.
