Infinity upgrade offer

Hi,

Apologies if this is a daft question, but...

I currently have BT Infinity 1 (up to 38Mbps)
I actually get get about 16-20 Mbps on this connection

BT have offered to increase my max speed to up-to-76Mbps if I renew for another 12 months.

If I go ahead, will I see any actual increase in speed or will it stay at ~16-20Mbps ?

Is your 16-20Mbps your actual connection speed, or just a speed test result done wirelessly?

The reason I ask is that unless you are connecting at, or very close to, 40Mbps now you would see no difference at all in the downstream. You may see a little on the upstream if you are achieving 9999Mbps on that.

Doesn't the Home Hub tell you your connection speeds somewhere? If not, another way to find your connection speed is to run the BT Wholesale Performance Test, (ignoring the red instructions - just tick you've done them), then on the results page click Further diagnostics near the bottom.

Copy and paste the full contents of the down and up results text boxes and we can tell you your downstream connection speed. We don't need to see the fancy graphics.

This is all assuming you have optimised home phone wiring - was it an engineer install at the master socket, or a DIY job where they just sent you a Home Hub and a filter?

Looks like you're getting less than the minimum on your line

You're currently on the 40/10 product.

Simply changing to the 80/20 product won't increase your speed.

You may have a fault on the line. You should call an engineer.


What estimate does www.dslchecker.bt.com give for your line?

Upgrading to Infinity 2 will not change your connection speed at all with those estimates and current speed test results. Looks like you are probably a fair distance from the cabinet.

I suspect that we may be a distance from the cabinet as we are a cul-de-sac on the edge of a small town with a playing field & garden centre between us and the next street !

I may walk the route into town to see if I can find my cabinet.

Is it worth raising a fault with BT ?

Not really a fault given the result from the dslchecker, your sync speed is pretty close to the estimate, especially the upstream.

Which exchange are you on? Someone may know where your cabinet is.

We're on the Otley (West Yorks) exchange.
