OK. The link to reset the password did point to bt.com. I didn't notice that. However, the salutation in the email was to Dear Customer.
My first name isn't Dear. At least, no one has called me that yet. And my surname isn't Customer. I'd rather be addressed as Dear Rich [censored] (although I'm not). They know my first name and surname. Why can't they use it? I automatically assume that any email that doesn't have my name in the salutation is suspect.
And why does the link shown as
www.bt.com/help actually point to bt.custhelp.com/... ? BT are really falling down on this. I suspect that it was BT or Oracle that triggered the password reset process, rather than someone trying to hack my account.
The fact that this occurred in a security-related email is inexcusable. Time to change ISP, methinks.
