Are These Stats Good Or Bad ?

[link to this post]

I'm about to have Max DSL switched on tomorrow ( Monday ). But I have the router set up already.....and here's the stats.

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 1152 Kbps 288 Kbps
Noise Margin 26.8 dB 24.0 dB
Line Attenuation 55.0 dB 31.5 dB
Output Power 17.9 dBm 11.8 dBm

That's currently on a fixed 1mb connection. Are these stats gonna get me the increase to around 2mb that I've been told I may get ?

With 26db of D/S margin, assuming its stable throughout the day, you should get more than 2Mbits, .

One thing I have already notice, even before the Max DSL change, is that using the BT Voyager router I am getting better speed than I had using the old USB 'frog' modem. It's download speed of about .95mb.....whereas with the USB modem I was consistently getting around .8mb on my 1mb line.

I'd be well pleased with 4 mb. I guess I'm gonna have to learn all about SNR and all that stuff....after years of just letting my USB modem do all the work.

Which router have they sent you?
Is it the Voyager 2091?

As when I swapped to the Voyager 2091 during my upgrade to option 4 *last* year I noticed a speed increase over the Voygager 205 router I had on usb !

I have my 2091 connected on MAIN pc by USB and to second PC on ethernet and get the same speeds on both!

Don't forget though with max'd ADSL speeds can and do vary during the day and evening due to contention (how many people ar on BT network etc) etc etc !!

But with predicted 4.1meg I'd say ya got a good chance of a definite speed improvement !!

If ya go for it remember there MAY be teething problems !!

Yes...............after my 'nightmare' yesterday, I discovered that some plonker ( who shall remain nameless ) had disabled the DHCP service on my PC several years back. Well...my old USB modem didn't need it !

The minute I re-enabled DHCP....it all worked. The irony is....I had actually made a list of all the services I disabled when I disabled them...specifically so I'd know if I ever found such an issue. I just forgot all about it.

However....my comments aboout the installation procedure not allowing you to restart still stand.
