Can you get the line stats (attenuation/noise margin/power levels/errors) from the router and post them here?

Will get details as soon as I get home.
If required I will put my old trusty D-Link back in place of the BT Router.
Thanks was not aware you could get these details from the router...

Should also have asked you to post the results from the availablility checker
http://www.btwholesale.com/get_broadband/index.html
On the face of it your line should quailify for 1 Mbits fixed rate service, and possibly manage around 2Mbits or so on ADSL Max.
If the availability checker says your line can only manage a 512kbps service (not 1 or 2 Mbits) then BT Broadband wont accept an ADSL Max regrade.

On reading some of the guides here I have disconnected my ring wire. I now get the much improved;

Line Mode G.DMT Line State Show Time
Latency Type Fast Line Up Time 00:00:22:59
Line Coding Trellis On Line Up Count 1

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 576 Kbps 288 Kbps
Noise Margin 20.9 dB 22.0 dB
Line Attenuation 49.0 dB 22.5 dB
Output Power 17.1 dBm 11.8 dBm

This has almost doubled my noise margin!

How can I arrange for a retest?

Results are;

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 512Kbps. However, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required, who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 1.5Mbps or greater.

The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

Thank you for your interest.

Unless I am missing something your Downstream noise margin has reduced from 24dB to 20dB, you dont want that.
Regarding the checker result, see here and email Mr Saffron with your details and he should be able to get the checker ammended to show 1Mbits available. This should allow an ADSL max regrade to go through with BT Broadband.
