Constant disconnections / reconnections

[link to this post]

My Total BB Adsl Max has been activated today and i'm constantly getting disconnections / connections (every minute or so) - is this normal? Cheers.

no it isnt normal.

can you post any line stats like "attenuation" or "SNR/noise margin". these should be available if you're using the BT provided hardware

I'm using the homehub provided - looking in the event logs the last connection has the following entry:

xDSL linestate up (downstream: 3456 kbit/s, upstream: 448 kbit/s; output Power Down: 18.0 dBm, Up: 12.0 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 56.0 dB, Up: 31.0 dB; snr Margin Down: 6.5 dB, Up: 20.0 dB)

Make any sense? cheers.

looks fine. the margin on downstream is low but thats what it tends to do on max - takes the line to the max it can handle.

as a result it may drop the odd time but it should really be just the odd time. if the figures stay like that then the line should remain quite stable.

are you plugged in to the master socket?

I have a microfilter plugged into the master socket and a cable connecting that to the hub which was provided with the hub which is about a metre long.

Really annoying and i didn't fancy calling BT India!!

does your master socket have the removable bottom half (accessable by 2 screws)? if so, you could try removing it and plugging into the hidden socket behind. this cuts all your internal wiring out of the equation. if the SNR margin improves significantly it could suggest bad local wiring or a noise source nearby messing with the signal.

simply remove the lower half and gently remove it and then plug the filter into the socket on the right hand side and then see what the figures are on your hub.

Well it does yeh. But before checking that i happened to plug my previous router in and connect using that rather than the BT homehub - the connects / disconnects have all but gone and it's synching at a higher speed!! Thanks for the help though Al!
