Can new router need time to "settle down" ?

[link to this post]

My trusty old 3COM wireless router gave up the ghost yesterday, so I've bought a new Netgear DG834PN replacement.

It was a breeze to setup, but my speed on a download just now is only 170 KB/per sec....my old 3COM was rock solid around 500 KB/per sec for past 6 months? (I'm on 8 meg connection)

Is this because I've changed the router, and it needs to sync/settle over a period again?

I was offline for about 36 hours in total, is that long enough for the exchange to decide my BRAS profile (??) is knackered.

Any advice from BT insider much appreciated!

I do not think being offline would effect it, I had my router off for 3 days when I went on a little trip and all was well when I switched back on

it really does depend on if when the old router died and the new one was installed if the sych differed and if so did you drop outside of the BRAS kimits for your synch speeds, you just need to ensure you stay stable for 3 days and then day 4 will see your BRAS come back if this happeneed
