Are BT taking the [censored]?

[link to this post]

Been trying out various linux distros today trying to see which id like to get on my new laptop (im liking ubuntu) and I have been getting amazing speeds all day 800kb/s+, now that 6pm has come and BT have turned on their throttling im now getting around 60kb/s from the same mirror (ftp.mirror.ac.uk) thru HTTP/FTP.

I can understand things being congested but this is unbelievable, day in day out for the last month after 6pm its gotten to the point where I cant do anything but surf and open email. Im on BTB single and dont download alot so I'm hardly breaking any rules here.

Anyone know the number for getting a MAC from BT and when they are open again? is it the 27th?

I too have been with BT BB for years and it has always worked like a dream.

I didn't even know that they throttled. In fact do they? What are the critera that they use?

What is the difficulty finding who to call for a MAC? Took me seconds.

I'm not noticing any throttling. I have been downloading at 2.3Mbps most of the time. I do notice short lapses in the speed in the evening but that seems to be down to contention rather than throttling.

Well to be honest with you, I don't think that will be a wise move. Primarily due to the fact unless you pay upwards of

Are you giving your sync rates or are they line speedtester results?

If they are your sync rates then you have a problem and changing provider won't make any difference.

I have the same problem on the same service. This has been the same since Nov 24th my local exchange has been red since Aug/Sep.I have contacted BTB but to no avail.Don't want to change just yet has i will have to pay out the rest of my contract (does this change in FEB 2007?).BTB said they are will review this each month (yeah right) ,0.5mps is a bit slow for xbox live. The only thing you can do is move providers they will not take it off i have tried. They also are targeting customers wo have moved from the home service to business so watch out!

I have sync'd at 8128 ever since switching to Max in march/april, and the pattern of my reduced speeds are far too uniform, always 6pm - 12am.

I have no problem with there being measures to reduce congestion as an emergency measure but having it constantly on for months on end is unacceptable this wasn't what I signed up for and I'm certainly not going to continue to pay a premium for a service that is upto 8meg only when I can't use it (I work 9-5)

My exchange is RED and congested but answer me this how can I be getting full speed (6.5meg) at 5:50pm but when it turns 6pm my speed plummets in real time to <1meg and stays there until 12am where it will shoot back up to 6.5meg during a transfer (literally it will be going at 90kb/s and instantly jump to 800kb/s as soon as 12am comes around). This alone rules out anything to do with congestion. I really should have complained earlier but I'll be doing something about it this time.
