BT Total Broadband speed upgrade help?

[link to this post]

Hi guys

I was hoping you could advise me.

I ran a bt speed availability test on our broadband connection which said we were likely to get a 2mb connection which is alot more than were currently on. (BT Yahoo with a 512kbps connection). So my dad ordered the BT Total Broadband option 3 package which was received today. Followed the instructions and got the hub connected.
However the speed is the same as it was before. This has been confirmed by using various online speed testers.
I understand there is a 10 day period where the line is tested? is this the case? Is the speed likely to increase over the 10 days or are we going to be stuck with a measly 512kbps connection?

Thanks in anticipation

Chris

Can you tell us the sync speed, attenuation and SNR margin for your line?

I don't have the hub myself but I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you how to get this information if you don't know already.

orly?! ya rly!

Your upload is still 288kbps

This means you are not on MaxDSL (total broadband). I'd give BT a call and ask them what's going on

Yeah - looking at your line attenuation of 56 - 2mb is realistic. I agree with Orly - it seems that you have the equipment but not the service. Don't panic just yet - I'm sure all is well. And yes - you will see fluctuating speeds during the first 10 days - just leave it alone and ti will eventually stabilise.

How can you tell if your on total broadband.?. That was what we ordered and have followed all the instructions on setting up the hub which arrived today.
What is this 10 day test that i keep hearing about ?.On installing the hub should the speed have increased straight away? At this stage it is no different from the cheaper BT yahoo service that we were on.

I also found this Exchange checker on plusnet usertools which seems to confirm with the Bt checker that should get approx 2mbps.

Speeds: Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 2Mbps or greater.

Getting confused now .

panic over i think guys. Just had an email from BT saying that the service will be activated on the 25th (obviously not been activated yet thought this would be done straight away). So i guess in theory this is when the speed increase should start. Will keep you all posted. Thanks to all who have replied.

Your stats aren't great so don't expect much faster.
