BT Home Hub - Good or Bad ?

I have recently set up my BT Home Hub as per instructions, since the I have had terribly slow speeds !!

I used to use my own router but thought I'd take advantage of the Broadband Talk and set up the Home Hub.
Since then it's been awful ... I used to get speeds of 7.3MB on a regular basis and now it doesn't rise much above 2MB ... today it dropped well below that.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem with the BT Home Hub ? If this carries on I am going to go back to my old router.

i binned my home hub a long time ago its terrible for dropping connections !

follow my full info here to set up talk on your router with a ATA to use talk. its a lot to read and easy to make a mistake so print it off and you'll be fine.

I sometimes think that I am alone when I say, and this is praise indeed when coming from me, that the Home Hub has worked almost flawlessly here. Normally, I have found BT supplied ADSL kit truly awful going back to the days of the accursed USB frog. Using the Home Hub I get 8 meg (I got this before as well so no big deal there), it never drops the connection (my old router didn't either, but the one before that was shall we say 'highly strung'), the phone even works all of the time. Oh, and it is the best wireless box I have ever had in terms of the signal and real world data transfer rates. I say almost flawlessly only because I have found that it really doesn't like me changing its IP address to suit my network rather than it deciding what addresses it wants me to use. For some reason doing this completely breaks DNS relay when using DHCP meaning that I have to explicitly tell the client machine what address to use for DNS.

they always reckon each manufacturer makes a good one and you seem to have it - i know people in this forum post the bad bits but my hub was terrible like a lot of others ?

cheaply made ! quality control maybe ?

Damnit. I thought me and Old_Geriatric had the only good ones.

Mine never drops, has better line stats than my previous Voyager 2100 and 220v and best of all it was free.

Mine aint bad now either tad slow speedwise but fixes on way hopefully.

I'm not alone then!

Actually, I'd go as far as to say that it's the best router I've used at home. I particularly like the fact they have finally got the DynDNS bit working in the latest firmware. Now, if only they had designed in some keyhole fixings so I could attach it to the wall.

Whole heartily agree with you Desmond. Had mine since August and no problems apart from volume on phone not very good for me, I am partially deaf.
I would recommend it.

Since the last software update the Home Hub has become one of the most reliable ADSL routers I've ever used.. It now holds onto my line no matter what and I'm getting really good speeds..

My 2nd hub is excellent but my 1st was [censored] !!
But I had the same with my Voyager 2091 - the 1st one was faulty the 2nd was great !!
