Help - Errors online

[link to this post]

Help can anyone tell me how many errors on BT TB are acceptable ??
Stats are as follows:

Uptime: 4 days, 15:47:03
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,096
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 334.10 / 2.39
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 13.5 / 28.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 12.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 1 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 5,291,732
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,970
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,656

We dont use our landline for outgoing calls and have not noticed any noise on line etc
And broadband speeds are excellent and connection is stable, so basically my question is "Do I need to worry over the errors" or not ??

Donna calm! Those errors are totally normal. Look at mine:
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,433,932
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 8,146
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 6,726

I should also point out that FEC errors are not even errors in all honesty. What FEC stands for is Forward Error Correcting. Which means that the data which otherwise would have caused a fatal error e.g. CRC(Cyclic Redundancy Check) and been unusable your home hub and the equipment at the exchange work in collaboration to fix the data and deliver it to your computer! All within 10ths of a second!

Aint that reassuring.

Mine are bigger than yours!

Uptime: 8 days, 3:36:04

Modulation: G.992.1 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 3,520

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 822.06 / 2.14

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 18.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 30.0 / 53.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 3.5

Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ALCB

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote): 0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 40 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 45,520,460

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 3,962

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 3,584

Due to the fact that my line is hanging on with low SN Margin. If I resync lower they drop but so does my IP profile

Thanks folks

Just with the first couple of hubs I had - they didnt list many errors - thinking about it though they wouldnt stay connected for even 12hrs

The connection has improved no end since installing this hub and speeds mainly well over 6meg all day

I will stop worrying now lol
But why is the errors and how many are acceptable are never explained anywhere by BT

Yup they aint all that bad! I have one and it works fine at times then it doesn't. But all in all its quite good. A bit like the top gear American special when Clarkson says he would rather be in his Camero than an Enzo as he knows how it works and its little quirks.

Yeah the hub connects slower but you get used to it, I'd rather lose a meg in speed than get disconnected from xbox live due to a resync or get the phone(VOIP) cut off because of the same. At least if it locks up it is a minimum of a few days and a simple reboot diffuses the situation.
