BT supply giganews access - europe.isp.giganews.com is what you point your newsreader to.

Is this the same as news.btinternet.com or a more complete set of groups?

news.btinternet.com also works too!

Mind you, when I did use it having only 3 connections was a bit a of hindrance compared to my 10 (now 20) connections with Giganews Premium, and it was also very "Bursty", not a solid high speed service. Others may find different, but that was my experience and I continued my 'pay' account.

If you really want newsaccess and can't afford or rather don't want to pay, then the server does have the same 100 day retention that the pay service has, so it's certainly not bad in that respect.

its 3 connections capped at 512kps (0.5mbit/s)

And its a rather steady speed, and strangly its not effected by the shaping either!
