Hi
Looking at migrating over to BT Broadband. I was wondering if anyone had any problems getting BT Broadband on a BT line they are not the account holder for. On the first page for ordering it has a dialog box to confirm if you are the account holder or not. I would have thought that not being the account holder that I could not fill in any of the following pages. I would have hoped that you can input your own details etc and you would be billed seperately to the account holder? Of course I do not know if BT check the name of who wants broadband and the actual account holder and therefore may refuse the order?
I also notice that the BT Vision site requires the same information.
Hope someone can help clarify this for me.

I can't speak for BT Broadband but my ADSL connection was ordered by me and is paid for by me but the phone has always been in someone else's name and is paid for by them.

BT insist on billing the broadband to the PSTN (phone line) account.

So does this mean I cannot set up a direct debit for just the BT Broadband part? and that everything will be in one bill only to the account holder.
This can get stupidly complicated sometimes. I was hoping to set up the broadband in my name and keep it seperate to the phone line. This is how I have done it before, but trust BT to make something so simple so complicated.
I suppose this also means that if I am not the account holder and there is a problem with the service, then I will get no tech help unless I am actually the account holder? Which seems to be the case for something so simple as phone line queries.
Thanks

Forgot to ask if anyone knows how long a migration takes?

Yes its stupid, I actually have BT broadband on someone elses line but I had to get their permission to get it put on but I work for BT so i had the staff offer put on their line but if I was paying the normal rates it would go on their bill.
The person who owns the line needs to order the brodband they won't take an order from anyone else.
Also afaik they cannot setup a seaperate billing account, they certainly couldn't do it from broadband talk for me.
Its rather stupid in my opinion that a company the size of BT is unable to bill 2 different services to 2 different accounts

Totally agree. I am hoping they will be better than my previous supplier. I have never got my full speed back after they switched over to ADSLMax and over three months of trying to sort it out has exhausted me.
BT are certainly not the cheapest provider around and probably not the best, some of their free items for Option 3 look great but things like WiFi minutes and the Digital Vault are not something I will ever use.
Anyhow will have to sort this out one way or the other, certainly technology seems to make things more and more frustrating, for me anyway, and if I had known how they actually bill their broadband I may have held off for a MAC code a little longer.
Finally do you know how long a migration takes from ordering at all?
Thanks

Afraid I don't know how long migration takes process takes.
Most of what I know about ADSL is from what i learnt reading around the internet.
Although I do have some Dealings with ADSL its usually just testing a particular port to prove its working inside the exchange or changing the cards in the DSLAM to fix a fault.

I will ring them in the morning and find out. I am hoping to get it done before my next billing date which is in about two weeks, and of course I have a Mac Code that is slowly expiring.
How have you found the broadband service? I know someone on BT Broadband and they are happier than their previous provider, but it was the same as my current provider and I have to say I have had no real complaints until a few months ago, not sure if that was because they were taken over after the new year or the switch to ADSLMax! For over two years though it was very good and very reliable for me.

My line is very stable but then I live under 700metres from the exchange.
Only gripe is the traffic shaping in the evenings causes my connection to run quite slowly.
(you will have seen me moaning about it on these forums)
I don't use most of the stuff such as BBtalk so i can't comment on that and i'm not a big fan of the homehubs either I much prefer my voyager 2110
Probably going to get BTVision at somepoint so i'll probably have to get the hub out its box.
All I can really say is read reviews of different providers and pick the one that suites you.
