Increase in Latency over past month

[link to this post]

I noticed my ping increase by 10ms last month.

Now I know this is not a big increase but wanted to know why, I think I've found the reason.
I am still on Fastpath:

C:\Users\Alistair>tracert bbc.co.uk

Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.131]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms voyager.home [192.168.1.1]

]
3 22 ms 22 ms 21 ms 217.47.157.13
4 22 ms 23 ms 22 ms 217.41.218.9

15 35 ms 34 ms 34 ms bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.131]

Trace complete.

I used to ping 22ms to bbc.co.uk, now it is 34ms. You can see the big step up occurs at Birmingham.

Does anyone know what this is. Why has the ping increased?

Will it ever go back down again?

In all honesty, thats not a big hike. Something going over 100ms, if not going overseas, might be cause for concern. Heres my results ........

Whats weird... I'm all the way down in the southwest - and I ping the same to your first hop (217.47.157.140) as you do...

I was going to suggest congestion but I ping around 16ms to any of those hops that are 30+ for you and around 23-24ms to the ones closer to you - so unless its highly specific to your routing its probably not traffic conditions.

Hmm, I just want to know if anyone from BT will know why this happened.

I know I shouldn't worry over 10ms but something has changed to make this happen.

Probably their oversold, overly agressively throttled network...

at bang on 6pm my connection goes from 400+KB/s download speeds, very fast page loading, etc. to <50KB/s and web sites take forever to load, even youtube rebuffers 10+ times in a 2 minute clip and trackmania takes about 30 seconds to login - instead of instantly as it does outside of 6pm to 2am... come 2am again and bam its back to super fast, instant logins, no hugely long "Waiting for server..." while loading web-pages, etc.

Sorry ranting a bit as I'm fed up with it and have little option.
