BT Email problems

[link to this post]

Hi All, This is my first post on the BT forum. I wonder if anyone can give me advise?
Yesterday whilst checking my email I had a box come up asking for user name and password, when I put in the details the same box comes up again asking for the same thing, I then have to press cancel and it then checks my other non bt email addresses and downloads emails but will not download my BT emails then an error come up as follows:-

Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Error logging in. Please visit http://mail.yahoo.com', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I have not changed any settings and I am able to receive emails from my other email addresses.
Any help please
Kind regards
Greigster

Just solved the problem. It seems that Yahoo are having problems and I fixed it after reading a post on Madasafish forum.
Had this problem with BT email (run by yahoo) and have changed details in Tools-accounts-server from mail.btinternet.com to pop.mail.yahoo.com and mail is now working fine, then changed back to mail.btinternet.com and everything is working again. Posted my problems on thinkbroadband bt forum and just happened to read the maaf forum (I used to be with maaf) and found the yahoo post.

It happens occasionally - not just on BT or Yahoo accounts. If it happens to me, I just ignore it and when mail checks again a few minutes later it is back to normal.

This had been going on for 2 days. I have never come across this problem before.

If you are not using BT for your connection you will find that you have to dial in on PSTN every few months otherwise you will not have pop3 access to you emails.
Access via web mail should still work, for a while at least

Not strictly true though. I've been able to access and use my BT Internet email account and have never dialled in nor paid any extra to keep my email address(es). I left well over a year ago! (my BTinternet ftp / webspace is still live too)

So, it's possible that some escape the net as with the throttling...

neither did I until a few days ago when it stopped working, just like the OP. After dialling in I was magically able to access email again via pop3 using my own ISP.
It will likely happen, eventually.

It is a regular event, every few months at least, been like that ever since they partnered with Yahoo.
