BT Broadband Voice

Hi there,

Got my self a VOIP router the other day hoping to hook it up to the BT Broadband voice thing. Been struggling for the past few days. Then read some old posts here about it, and looks like from Feb 2007 BT changed it so that it would only work with THEIR kit. GRRRR So much for a good idea! oh well will have to pop it on EBAY now! what a waste of money that was!!

Unless..... someone has figured out how to connect up a Linksys PAPT2

Why on earth would BT do this. Surely they want to make money out of it?

I can only really guess why they have done it is to make it easier to support... and if that is the case use their own kit. Makes the lives of the people in the Indian call centre a lot easier!!!

BT broadband talk is rubbish anyway, mind you most Voip is rubbish. It sounds worse than a mobile phoine with a bad signal.

The only Voip I have used that is semi decent is Vonage, but by the time you pay for that, you may as well go for a normal fixed line service.

MSN works ok, but it is not Voip, I find the quality of sound is good, Skype is rubbish mind you.

Maybe you should have checked first eh ?. Do you not have the Home Hub ?

Yer I know I should have checked first, but just assumed all was SIP compatible. And from some of the posts I read here it worked, but I guess I did not read them all.

Why on earth would I want to use the BT Home hub? When I renewed my 12 months thing they asked if I wanted one, and I said no, but they posted me one once anyway, and it went straight in the bin. Home Delivery Service person was a bit shocked when I opened up the wheely bin and poped it in here!

So people don't hear a echo when you talk to them? when I used mine people complained that they could hear their voice come back at them. Other times it just broke up and people could not hear what I was saying and sometimes the other way around.

the other problem is it is far too loud and I have to put the phjone on hands free and stick it on the arm of the chair, other wise people says it is over the top in volume.

Considering that the Humhub is made by Thomson I thought it would be good as I have got a Speedtouch 585 and it have been working great for 3 years now. But I have to reset it every so often as it just locks up and will not allow anything though. My old Speedtouch was not switched off or reset for two years and then after that another 8-9 months.

the hub phone is tacky to be honest, and I still got it connected to my Hume hub, but I have not used it for ages.

Once I can find out the reason that my PS3 don't loike the speedtouch 585, I will then change back to it and the Homehub can be put away somewhere.



I won't chuck it yet, I will do if I leave BT, which ifg they go ahead with porm is more the likely I will find another ISP.

No echoes and my Hub phone has a volume option too.

It have a volume for incoming, but not for out going. I thought maybe it was the hub phone itself, but I put a normal phone in the back of the unit and it did the same thing, people say it is very loud and I don't talk loud.

I do find it useful when I am friends places that have wireless or they have Bt broadband as I can use my mobile to have free calls on the evening and weekends. when I visit them.
