Re: BT aren't that bad

I shifted to BT a few years ago, so am no longer qualified to compare with other ISPs. From time to time I do have issues, but try to avoid contacting the alleged support function, because whatever level of detail I supply I just get offered the standard responses.
Isn't it time that there was a proper regulator? Ofcom is a joke - far too cosy with the suppliers. There should be the ability to fine really recalcitrant ISPs, just as the rail regulator does.

I think I paid £30 for box inc. setup, after that I've just used it as a pvr/freeview alternative to my Sky setup, apart from the occasional film purchase...so to all intents it's free...

A friend paid £60 or there about, £30 for set up and £30 for the box. I suppose it is a extra, but not a free extra and yes before someone comes on here saying that he got his free, he don't have a subscription so it was free for him, it don't happen for most people.

Why do you need it if you already got Sky unless you use it on another T.V?

I have had enough of BT, I knew it was a mistake to go back, something I said I would never do, I wish I listened to myself now.

Things have got worse since our exchange was downgraded to WBC. Disconnections, sky high SNR and speeds lower than what I had before.

What did they say, it was a coincidence, I don't believe in them,. I will stick it out now until January and then look elsewhere, that is if they don't stick this stupid tax on the line.

Its funny how a move "forward" for BT is actually 2 steps back... tho atleast I do have the higher upstream now.

Although when I initially moved to WBC my ping times halved and I gained a couple of extra mbit/s downstream speed - for about a month before it all went to pot - lost 4Mbit on sync for no apparent reason, ping times have increased by 15-30ms and actual throughput never manages above 1Mbit unless its 4am.

Not to mention web-page load times have increased 10-20x longer.

Nice "super" fast broadband BT... even by 10 years ago standards this isn't exactly very fast.

I wouldn't recommend anyone go to BT now , i would've recommended it last year when bt was considered OK but its just got worse and worse. The customer support its shocking and that's not even BT india. Then add in the throttling and laggy browsing...

It's probably ok if all you use is facebook lol

Actually even facebook isn't that great on BT...

1 in 5 page load attempts I get an error or timeout - which I never get via VPN or mobile broadband.

Page load times are very varied and quite often when I click on a link - nothing happens it says loading but just stalls until I click again - again this never happens if I connect via a VPN over BT or mobile broadband.

If I load a page with lots of images on i.e. someones photo album ~1 in 5 images won't load or load up really small instead of the normal size - sometimes refreshing will solve it.

All in all its not that much of an improvement on dialup.

I'm having a great time with BT at the moment. My line speed has be steadily increasing and with a free iPlate to gain some extra speed, life couldn't be happier.

I admit I've had a few terrible times with BT but the past few months have been excellent and I couldn't fault them.
