First 24 hours - Low Noise Margin

[link to this post]

Hi I have just returned to BT from being with Bulldog/Pipex and am a little concerned! Noise margin is very low (9.5) and am experiencing frequent disconnections. Is this something which is likely to be rectified during the initial training period or should I ask them to raise my snr margin profile (as I did with Bulldog with good results)?

Assuming DLM is working ok you should see the line stabalise over 2-4 days... if the SNR stays low and your getting lots of disconnections tho for more than a week then DLM is prolly jacked and needs BT to reset it... happens all too often these days.

Thank you for your reply - what would be the best way to explain what I want them to do/ word my request? - Do i ask for my noise margin profile to be raised to 12db, say?.

BT don't like manually specifying the noise margin... if the line has a lot of errors they will apply some cap of some sort thats about it...

If your still getting problems then the best thing to do is ask them to reset the line management (DLM).

Other than that - if your router allows it you could tweak the SNR with say DMT Tool or telnet... depending on the router model.

Well it means rolling back the firmware. I was lucky i had an old version of the homehub which meant no firmware upgrade but it had to fixed to stop it upgrading online.
