Query about the BTHomehub2

[link to this post]

I have been given a BTHomehub 2 by my parents but for some reason none of the computers in the house can connect to it wirelessly and I was wondering if BT 'lock' homehubs to phone numbers, which means they wouldn't be transferrable. Anyone know if this is true?

Both myself and my parents are on BT Broadband.

Well, the wireless could be a multitude of things, but the homehubs are not locked to specific phone numbers.

If you are on Bt then the hub will work, but the Home hub two uses WPA2 as default for encryption, maybe your computers can not cope with it and you have to go back to WPA.

Adrian using Linux on his laptop and windows 7 64 bit on his desktop.

BTBroadbandanywhere type package, when it works.

Hi, if you are trying to connecto to the BT Home Hub 2 you need to make sure the WEP key is being typed in correctly. You will find this key on the back of the hub. The hubs are not locked to telephone numbers.

Hi David.

For whatever reason, the Homehub2 is now working fine after retrying again today. It wasn't that the password was entered incorrectly previously as I've used a homehub for years now and I checked the password each time I entered it on my Mac, a Vista PC and even an iPod Touch. I had considered changing the wireless mix to exclude the 'n' standard but in any event it wasn't necessary. Bit of a mystery that one...

Bah! Spoke too soon. It wasn't working today so I connected to it the wired method and changed the wireless channel it was broadcasting on and it's working on all devices at present. Let's see what the next day brings...

I'm having problems with this hub too! At my home address my laptop was fine but others were experiencing slowness and trouble connecting at times, I turned the 'N' range off and it seems to have done the trick. At my grandmother's house however we can barely catch the SSID before it dissapears off the network list even though it has excellent signal. I tried asking on the BT support forum but I haven't had a reply in a week frown

I am also having problems with this hub and it is driving me up the wall. It did connect wirelessly until BT configured it via remote control of my PC, which at least stopped it from pretending to be a different BTBroadband Talk number to what it actualy is. Since then I have been unable to connect wirelessly. Using the BT supplied CD the "connecting" animated logo reports with a blue tick that my laptop has connected, but it always fails when corroborating the network key (it didn't fail in this way before). I have tried resetting the SSID and network to the default in case they had become corrupted, but no improvement. I changed the b/g/n down to just b in stages and no improvement. I followed BT guidance to press reset switch on the hub and now it is even worse - it fails before it gets as far as checking the network key. I am at my wits end now and am getting close to threatening to cancel my package service - it's been nothing but trouble since day one and I cannot get better than 0.9 mbps in spite of being assured by BT that my line wlli deliver 6.5 mbps.
