Thank you BT /sarcasm

I dunno I think I got broadband so I could maybe watch some non postage stamp sized streaming video... of things like I dunno the space shuttle launch going on right now... only 1200kbit/s nothing much even 90s broadband can manage this - so should be no problem...

uh no - constant rebuffers every 10 seconds and takes about 20 seconds to buffer each time... so I'm left watching the low res postage stamp steams (ok dialup couldn't stream the low res ones either but thats another matter).

Soon as the contract is out (someone decided to renew the contract on switching us to ADSL2+) and I can find an ISP that can cater for out needs (not easy on an exchange without LLU) I'm out of here...

EDIT: Oh and I have checked with other people and the stream is running fine - the host server isn't even close to its port throughput limit.

I'm not defending BTBroadband at all with this post (as I'm sure most of you know my post history here)... BUT...

You had a post saying that you were nearing the 100GB limit for the month of July and you'd be limited to 1MBit for 30 days once you hit that. You traced it to a housemate "torrenting" so has he stopped the "torrents" now? If he hasn't then perhaps he's got the upload settings wrong and your upload is being saturated which in turn affects the download.

You probably already know this, but for a single computer "Torrenting" the upload should be 80% of your upload sync, to have 'reasonable' browsing on the same machine. For each additional computer on the network it is (IMHO) safer to reduce the 80% limit by 10% for each connected PC.

That would personally be my first point of call if the host site runs fine on other connections. smile

However, knowing BTB they've probably already turned on your 1Mbit limit! laugh wink

not meaning to be abrasive... but I'm not an idiot tongue I appreciate that this aspect could be something overlooked by people with less technical experience.

And yes we are pretty much always on the 1Mbit limit at peak times - despite rarely hitting anywhere near 100gig usually - seems to kick in every time we exceed 30-40gig or so i.e. option 2 limit. They also seem to be throttling video throughput despite being on option 3 - I think its time I addressed that one too.

Hehe, no offense taken! (and I don't think the response was abrasive) wink tongue

No doubt it's another case of BT not knowing what the left hand is doing when the right hand is somewhere else..

It wouldn't surprise me if the email that people are recieving with the 100GB limit mentioned is a 'future' limit and it's actually still only the old, old Option4 50GB one! laugh smile

Could well be - we often hit 60gig a month - very rare we hit 100gig that I know of - router doesn't give very reliable info - but I have a general idea. We've been hitting peak time throttling for months.

Are you sure it's throttling, not just congestion?

Or of course - both!

The worst days are deffinatly congestion - but that only happen 1-2 times a month - the rest is deffinatly traffic management - if you graph it over time its always hitting the same peak value.
