Anything here wrong or i should get changed?

Hi,

I recently noticed BT have interleaving switched on over my line (I've asked them to switch this off, my line was fine with this off when i originally got it.

I'm on BT business broadband option 2

You are approximately 565 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

I don't have much experience with ADSL but here is the output from my cisco 800 router... Does everything here look OK to others or is there something i could get changed that would improve performance?

Do you know what your line (sync) was before interleaving was switched on? did you get the full 8128kbps ?if you did,then there isn't much that can be done to get a speed increase in line speed, but i would say from the attenuation that you line is around 1km or maybe a bit more from the exchange, so your line should support higher speeds probably around 18-19mb on LLU asdl2+ (based on attenuation and current snr) there may be a few tweaks that you could do to maybe get a little more throughput, but apart from getting interleave switched off again if high latency is an issue for you ,there's not a lot

Whats the best MTU setting?
Right now I've not touched that but I've seen others using 1458.

TCP/IP - the protocol used to transmit packets over the internet. Though to confuse the issue at times TCP/IP packets are themselves often wrapped in ATM packets - for example between the exchange and your modem.

TCP/IP window as referred to by tommy - the buffer space allowed at your end to receive and store TCP/IP packets if your equipment can't handle them at the speed they are coming in.

Amazing though what a postcode can give away these days .

Yeh i have seen that 1458 recomended for bt bb, but you can find out what the biggest packet it will support without fragmenting it check out the link to the how to here:www.kitz.co.uk there is also a lot of adsl related info that may also be of some help to you,
and here is a link tio a free tool that is used for tweaking TCPOptimizer or you have this tool that does a similar job drtcp
Windows by default has an mtu of 1500, this can be changed to a lower figure, if you wish, but it is the mtu setting of the router that is the most important

If you're using Vista or Win7 don't run any TCP optimisers! Set the router's MTU to 1500 and leave it at that.

Note the dropped packets was due to me disconnecting and moving some equipment around here.

I'm connected via a Cisco 850 ADSL modem/router.

EDIT: BT have an engineer calling me on Monday to check the connection is still running stable, as there have been a lot of sudden speed drops (down to 2meg, sometimes lower) this has happened for an hour to 2 hours (even when i was interleaved)... so I'm thinking maybe just the amount of local traffic in my area?
