Is there much point?

[link to this post]

I'm running BT option 3 and at the minute I'm quite happy but have a couple of questions...

The max speed I'm getting atm is 6.5Mbps but drops through the afternoon (fair enough cant really complain).

Doing a speed test @ speedtester.bt.com is coming back:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 6520 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

Router stats :-

Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 14.8 dB / 27.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 20.0 dB / 13.0 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 19.8 dBm / 12.1 dBm
Loss of Framing (Local) 0
Loss of Signal (Local) 0
Loss of Power (Local) 0
FEC Errors (Down/Up) 467 / 0
CRC Errors (Down/Up) 0 / 2147480000
HEC Errors (Down/Up) nil / 0
Error Seconds (Local) 0

The question is... not long after getting broadband in (I cant remember if it was within the 10 day test period or not) broadband died for two weeks. could that have affected the profile? could the line get any better?

Also was thinking of getting Interleaving turned off to get my pings lower for gaming, how easy is this to do with BT? and again is there any point?

Cheers

Profile is right for an interleaved line. Certainly seems you'd get slightly better speed and pings by getting interleaving turned off. I think a private message to the user BT_Care on these forums with your account details would be a wise step.

What exchange are you on? The link to what samknows says would be great.

The reason I ask is that with those stats you should be able to get well over 18Mbps connection speed on BT ADSL2+ or better still some of the LLU suppliers that may be available. And pay less!

Are you still in the first 12 months of your BT contract?

Nor WBC frown.

Your line is perfect. You may still be connecting to a BT Central Plus in which case your latency will be better than average from that exchange. It may be possible to improve even that. Or you may be on IPSC, I don't know if BT Broadband uses that - see my website for what it is.

Whatever! Do as orly said smile. BT_Care reps are excellent and have removed interleaving for many BT customers. Phone number and username I expect are needed. And a link to this thread.

profile is right irrespective of interleaving - it won't go faster than 8128 and a 7150 profile.

Phil

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.
