news.btinternet.com is outsourced to giganews. You'll have to give it a go to see if infinity users can access it. ISTR You leave username and paswword blank. It is certainly throttled and number of threads restricted.

The original thread was to find out what the limit actually is on this new technology.

As some have said, most people will not use much. Some will use the whole lot and some in the middle.

What I was wondering was, have we now reached the point with FTTC where for most/all people and even the heavy downloaders that a limit has been reached where we do not have to worry about download limits any more.

It looks like we can, just trying it now. Defo heavily throttled though, getting a max of 76KB downloading a set of headers.

You need to put 'news.btinternet.com' (without the quotes) as the server in your news client, no username / password needed.

ok, has anyone with BT infinity downloaded >10TB yet per month. What is the maximum you have been able to dowload before being collered?

Can give you an indication of an answer. A friends brother is now swearing at BT. He has had Infinity for 11 days. Since day 1 he has been downloading constantly. Yesterday, he was informed that he is being throttled for 7hours per day (peak time)...

I've asked a few pertinent questions - what is his sync/bandwidth, what was he d/ling (as in P2P, usenet, encrypted, or ftp/http transfers), and how much did he estimate in total.

But it appears that there is a limit, and as I warned back in 2006... its very very easy to hit them now.

(I look forwards to the FTTC ISP package that comes with a 2GB allowance!)

And what are the answers ? There is, I believe, no limit on the BT Infinity Option 2 package but it is still almost certainly subject to some sort of FUP.

Personally, I think your friend's brother probably got what he deserved.

would be good to know how much was used in 11 days that triggered the BT systems. I can not tell as I do not use BT or Infinity
