Re: Infinity and Traffic Shaping

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I have recently migrated from Be to BT Infinity. Only managed to get 5Mbps with Be, but now get 38Mbps with Infinity (with 8Mbps upload). Only noticed minor slow downs so far (speed tests in the evening have sometimes been 30Mbps). Either way, it wipes the floor with what I used to get at Be. I didn't really want to go to BT, but at the price and the performance they are offering it was a no brainer really.

I'm not sure about packet shaping but I'm not very happy with BT Infinity so far.

I moved from Be and was getting about 17Mb/s down and 2.5Mb/s up. I'm now getting about 14Mb/s down although I'm also getting about 7.5Mb/s up.

I was told that I should get about 36Mb/s down and 10Mb/s up. I complained to BT and was told that unless I'm getting less than 10Mb/s down or 1Mb/s up that it's within the contractual speeds and they won't do anything about it.

Very unhappy with BT Infinity so far frown

Definitely something wrong. It is impossible for the FTTC speed to be lower than the ADSL2+ speed on that line, unless there is. Simply because it isn't a long line, where things could be poor, and the line length to the cabinet is less than to the exchange.

So keep at them, or I suggest you contact BT_Care who visit these forums, see the contact link here for them.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I agree. The speed should be at least the ADSL2+ speed.

I understand the subject as I'm a CCNA (Cisco) qualified network technician. Unfortunately most of the people I've managed to speak to at BT obviously don't understand the subject of networking to anything near the level necessary to deal with anything that isn't covered in their troubleshooting flow chart.

I will keep on banging my head against the brick wall that is BT. If enough people bang their heads against a wall for long enough, the wall will eventually fall smile

I have found using the Encryption on uTorrent gets around any slow down for Torrents...

Here's a screenshot downloading from a private tracker... as you can see no slow down and after 4pm... never get a slow down if i have encryption on.
