Hey,

I was thinking of sticking my 500 GB disk on it, but was not sure about leaving a USB disk (with psu) running 24/7 ...

Am happier with solid state ...

Cheers,

Rob

The HDD will wind down after a period of inactivity. TBH i leave my router on 24/7, fridge freezer on 24/7 etc. i cant see what difference a HDD is going to make.

I leave my HDD with a PSU on 24/7... It'll be fine.

Get a decent smoke alarm if you're concerned.

I all depends on which devices you actually "trust" ... a la Michael MacIntyre sketch!

So, what do YOU leave on when you go on holiday --- we all trust the fridge, but not the telly!!!!

Cheers,

You were probably the first FON user of your own connection tongue

I actually disabled it on ours because there is essentially nil chance of any connecting to it. Our house seems to be built from foil and lead, judging by how any router down the years has struggled to emit a wireless signal inside the building let alone out into the street.

I agree with this one

As a rule of thumb in my house.

If it's a decent make or from a place I trust it stays on 24/7. E.g. Tescos home brand stuff I leave on, sony, netgear etc..

If it's a bit dogey such as chinese junk from ebay. I turn it off but generally replace it asap.

& if it's not the original PSU I turn it off too.

So if the hard drive is some chinese stuff off ebay for £40 less than pcworld would charge, I would ensure it's not left on.
